Pastoral Prayer

Loving God. Without your calling, no one can come to you. Without spiritual touch, no one can call the Lord as the Christ. Standing in your house, we confess that you have guided us until now. O Lord, we thank you for calling us. Help us have faith in you in all things and give thanks to you. We know all you have done. Since you started, you will finish with amazing grace. We worship you today. We want to return the best to you. Help us to worship you with hearts and souls. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Calling the Seventy Disciples)
Luke 10:1-20

All Jesus could do by himself. Jesus is God. God created the universe. He does not need people's help.

The work mentioned in today's scripture is evangelization. It is to deliver gospel that Jesus be the Christ, our Savior. It is the message that anyone who believes in Jesus will not be destroyed but saved. In this mission, God needs people. Why God the Creator needs people's help?

That is God's strategy. God saved humans by making his one and only Son Jesus be a human being. This is God's way. And God uses Christians who believed first and let them reach out to non-Christians.

Jesus called people and trained them. Without training, no one can work for God. And God prepared proper training.

Jesus chose 12. They were called "disciples." Of course, there were other people called 'disciples.' The two disciples descending to the village Emmanus were the example.

Today's scripture tellus 70 disciples. We do not know whether the 12 were involved in them or not. What is sure is Jesus callem them and trained them so that they could go out for the mission. They were given the authority and power to expel demons in Jesus' name. The true power is to use the name of Jesus Christ.

With the power, they healed the sick, and expelled the deomon. Any Christian could practice the power in Jesus' name. Believing in Jesus is trusting in Jesus. We cannot do with out own power; with the power of Jesus, we could do all.

You may test this. With a prayer request, kneel down and pray an hour. You may feel it always being realized. You could work as you pray, and you will feel the existence of Jesus with you. Of course, there is a premise that ithe work is within God's will.

Spiritual harvest is evangelization. Not only deliver Gospel but lead them to God's house.

Jesus chose and sent 70, two each of 35 groups. Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." Jesus sent them as workers of God's harvest.

Jesus first taught them how to pray: "O God, send out workers into your harvest field!" (v. 2). Answering to God and praying to God for fellow workers are spontaneous affairs. We cannot do all; we need fellow workers.

There are some conditions for workers of the harvest.

10:2). Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into this harvest field. Luke 10:2.

We need co-workers. Therefore, we are to be ready to cooperate with others.

We shall not ask God for more power; instead, we need to ask God for another people. We are limited. With the recognition, we can be used by God better.

In Colombia, I could feel that God is so great. About ten professors teach students there. But they did not have a chance to come together to discuss what and how to teach. They know each other by name. God runs the seminary.

In such a circumstance, we cannot but have faith that God only works.

Do not take a purse or sandals. (Luke 10:4a).

Jesus teaches us not to rely on any other power. We must rely on God and his power.

Can we work the mission with money? If we are proud of the budget we spend for mission, it is like to bring a purse or sandals. In mission, money is not a matter. Only sincerity and faith matter.

Do not greet anyone on the road. (Luke 10:4b).

This depicts the priority of the mission. Do not stop for any reason. Nothing can make out walking for the mission.

When you enter a house, first say, "Peace to this house." If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. Luke 10:5.

10:6.) Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. (Luke 10:6).

Food and drinks are given not by people but God. God uses them. In the time of Elijah, God used birds and angels; today, God uses people's hands.

Those serving you are doing in Jesus' name. They are returning to God. Therefore, do not have sorry feeling.

Do not move around from house to house (Luke 10:7b).

This does not necessarily teach us to stay only at a house. We need wait for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

In the second mission journey, Holy Spirit did not permit Paul to work at the Asia Minor. Instead, he commanded him to go to Machedonia. We need to be guided by God at each step. We are his servants.

When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, "The Kingdom of God is near you!" Luke 10:8-9.

The focus of all the missionary works is the declaration of the Kingdom of God. Healing is also to declare the Kingdom.

All people who were healed eventually died. Through the healihg, they could understand the power of the Kingdom of God. Some die without healing. But if they understand the secret of Kingdom of God and get the conviction to get into, there is no essential difference between healing and non-healing at that time. Because spirit is eternal.

But when yoiu enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, "Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we ripe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.' I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.

We don't have to worry if they would not welcome us. In the final judgment, everyone has to stand before Jesus.

If they repent with our message, they will get salvation.

(누가 10:16) He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me. (Luke 10:16)

It is a wonderful declaration that servants represent the Lord, and Jesus does God. Working in Jesus' name, we get the power of Jesus Christ. Because we work for Jesus.

Therefore, we are working in Jesus' power and authority.

The seventy returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." The seventy came back with joy. They reported: "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."

Jesus said, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirit sbumit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." (Lk 10:18-20).

To practice power is good. But many showed power but noting important happened.

Our names are to be written in the Kingdom of God. It is the way of salvation. Three is no other goal for us but to get the grace of God and be saved.

The previous ten are the figures of evangelists. Those are what Jesus commanded us. We all are evangelists. This is what Jesus called us. No matter where we are whatever we do, we are to work for Jesus. This should be ultimate goal.

Golden Gate Church needs to be activated in tribe system. Currently, we have two young adult tribes, three adult tribes and one English.

As tribes grow, they divide naturally into small groups so that they could have easy meeting for Bible study and worship. According to ttoday's scripture, Jesus made each group with two members.

Team members cooperate eath other, fulfilling the mission of God. All are the harvest workers.

Jesus gave us power to work for him. We need to practice the power.

What is the power? It heals the sick, and brings joy to minds. First of all, it brings us peace. Visiting each home, we bless them "Peace be with you!"

Is there any bigger power than delivering peace? Without peace, we cannot do anything positive. With peace, however, even if with small chance or power, we could do our best. Children with peaceful home will work great.

In this sense, we are empowered. In the way of evangelists, the peace is overflowing.

The peace was given by Jesus Christ. It is the power of the Cross. The enemy demon removes, and the King of Peace controls us.

Each time when tribes meet, we need to pray for peace. There is no reason for tribe meetings to have at home with food. You may have meetings at a campus. What about senior homes? Evangelization is the main goal. As you are small and active tribe, you are free in choosing meeting place.

Each month, tribe leaders will be trained. Those trained leaders could lead their tribes with prayer and word of God. The existence reason of tribe is in evangelization as well as fellowship.

When Jesus was about to ascend to heaven, he spoke to his disciples: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20).

We need to grow as the church of many tribes. We pray God that we be powerful church with powerful tribes.

Remembr Jesus who called the seventy. If Jesus is with us, we also can be empowered. and be the witnesses of Jesus to the end of the world. Amen.

Each of us wants to be trained as leader of each tribe so that we could accomplish the will of God here and now.
