예수께서 나아와 일러 가라사대, “하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주고, 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라. 볼찌어다, 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라.”
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." 1990년 봄 어느 날이었습니다. 당시 나는 수유리의 어떤 신학대학에 인턴쉽 과정으로 나가 있었습니다. 조정림 전도사와 데이트 교제하던 중이었습니다. 수업 시간 내내 마음이 분주하다가, 끝나자마자 전화 걸었습니다. 종로에서 만나자고. 거기서 말했습니다. “나는 지역 교회 담임목회와 신학교 출강이 사명이다. 그런데 당신의 ‘선교사명’은 내게 없다. 그렇지만, 이렇게는 절충될 것 같다. 1년에 몇 차례 해외 선교지로 나가 신학교 교육을 통해 현지 목회자를 기른다. 어떻게 생각하느냐?” 선교비전을 품은 사역자를 찾던 조정림 전도사에게 거기서 ‘합격점’을 받았습니다. 전혀 선교에 꿈이 없던 내가 콜롬비아에 이렇게 관계된 것입니다.
3년 전, 박사학위를 받은 바로 그해, 시애틀에서 4일간 태평양지역 목회자 계속교육이 열렸습니다. 거기서 나는 매일 아침 성경공부를 인도했습니다. 그때 콜롬비아를 위해 기도하던 어떤 목사님을 만났습니다. 그분을 통해 나는 콜롬비아로 부르시는 하나님의 음성을 들었습니다.
예수님께서 승천하시기 전에 당부하셨습니다. "하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 주님께서 받으셨다. 성령님께서 우리에게 힘 주실 것이다. 모든 족속에게 가라. 성부-성자-성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고 교육하라. 내가 너희와 세상 끝날까지 함께 하겠다."
콜롬비아에서 나는 하나님의 영에 충만합니다. 순수하고 맑은 나라, 하나님만 바라보는 그리스도인의 모습에서 도전을 받습니다. 깨끗하고 밝은 은혜를 받습니다. 내게는 요새가 말할 수 없이 바쁘고 분주한 때입니다. 그러나 콜롬비아에서 지낸 한 주일은 내 영을 맑고 깨끗하게 해주었습니다. 하나님께서 '우선순위'가 분명하게 정리되게 해 주셨습니다.
지난 주중에 나는 다섯 번째 콜롬비아 교수선교여행을 다녀왔습니다. 하나님의 인도하심이었습니다. 여기다가, 여러분의 기도와 후원의 힘이 컸습니다. 나와 동행한 이형호 집사님은 우리교회 첫 번째 태권도 단기 선교사로 수고했습니다. Last Sunday evening, Deacon Hyung Ho Lee and I went to Colombia for a short-term mission. Deacon Lee served there as the first Taekwondo missonary.
통역 선교사님이 늦은 관계로 월요일 저녁 수업은 학생들 가운데 영어가 조금 되는 미겔(Miguel)의 도움을 받아 진행했습니다. 이번에는 대학부와 대학원이 통합된 교육이었습니다. 모두 36명의 정규과정 학생들과 몇 명의 청강생들이었습니다. 구약의 역대상하, 에스라-느헤미야, 시편, 잠언, 아가서, 욥기 등을 공부했습니다. 거의 40시간을 강의했습니다. Translator was late in the first day. And with the help of Miguel, a student, I taught them some introduction. This time we had a mixed class with 36 undergraduate and graduate students.
학생들의 대부분은 현역 목회자들입니다. 19세부터 60세까지 다양했지만, 평균 32세쯤 되는 젊은 클라스였습니다. Most students were active ministers. Youngest was 19 years old; oldest was 60 years old. They were young; average would be early 30s.
콜롬비아 목회자들의 90%가 신학교 다닌 적이 없습니다. 인구의 95%가 넘는 카톨릭의 경우, 정규 교육을 다 받습니다. 그래서 개신교 목회자는 무시당하기 일쑤라고 했습니다. In Colombia, more than 90% Protestatant ministers did not have any seminary education. Catholic church ministers are well-educated. Comparatively, Protestatant ministers have been underestimated.
콜롬비아 교회에는 많은 기적이 일어납니다. 그러나 엄청난 폐해를 끼치는 이단의 온상이 되어왔습니다. 그만큼 콜롬비아에서 신학교 교육은 중요합니다. You may see and hear miracles among Colombian churches. But they have been attacked by false teachings. Theological education is very important there.
보통 금요일 오전까지 수업했습니다. 금요일은 수도 보고타의 교회를 방문할 계획을 세웠기 때문에 목요일 밤까지 수업을 진행했습니다. 수요일은 열 한 시 반에, 목요일은 새벽 열 두 시 반에 수업을 마쳤습니다. Usually, we had class till Friday morning. This time, since we scheduled church visitation at Bogota, Thursday evening was the last class. On Wed, I taught till 11:30pm, and on Thurs, I taught till 12:30am.
태권도 선교 이야기를 간단히 전합니다. 월요일에 시범을 보여 광고했습니다. 화-수-목 저녁마다 태권도 교육을 통한 선교가 있었습니다. 저녁 여덟 시부터 한 시간 반 가량 걸렸습니다. 장소는 시청 앞 광장이었습니다. 보통 중-고등학교 운동장 규모의 광장에 매일 100명 가까운 사람들이 모여들었습니다. Let me talk about Taekwondo mission. In the evening of Monday, we had a permit for Taekwondo and performed half an hour for so that they might be infromed for the week's education. Every evening of Tuesday, Wed, and Thursday, we had Taekwondo at the Civic Center Square. Every evening we had about 100 people.
한 주일 동안, 저녁마다 우렁찬 한국말 기합소리가 후사가수가 시내를 뒤흔들었습니다. 태권도 열기가 한창 고조되었을 때, 학생 목회자들이 나와 설교했습니다. 정말 불을 뿜는 열정이 넘치는 설교였습니다. Last week, every evening, Fusagasuga City was full of Korean shouting. At the end of each day, a seminary student preached the gospel. They spoke for God with full power of the Holy Spirit.
가까운 지역에서 목회하는 윌리엄이 인도하는 보충 설교도 듣기 위해 여럿이 그를 둘러쌌습니다. After the sermon, Minister William, the Pastor of a Presbyterian church of the city, spoke some additional messages.
여기저기에서 기도 그룹이 형성되었습니다. 빙 둘러서서 손을 서로 잡고, 기도 인도자가 돌아가면서 몸에 손을 얹고 안수기도 해 주는 것이었습니다. There occurred prayer meetings. Standing in a cycle, they held hands one another and prayed for each other. Prayer leaders made some special prayer.
그런데, 이 기도팀들의 주요 인도자 헤르손(Gerson)은 열 아홉 살입니다. 그는 교회에서 산다고 했습니다. 어머니가 돌아가셨고, 아버지는 얼굴도 모릅니다. 그런데도 씩씩하고 바르게 자랐습니다. A major leader of the prayer meetings is Gerson, 19 years old. He stays at church. He lost mother some years ago. He does not remember his father. But he was healthy, full of the Holy Spirit.
강의가 끝나고 시험이 있었습니다. ‘구두시험’을 실시했습니다. 두 가지로 구성되었습니다. 내용 질문-대답이 3점, 설교가 2점, 모두 5점입니다. After the classes, students had oral examination. This was composed of two parts: question-answer(3 points) and a sermon (2 points).
마지막 날 순서가 설교 시험이었습니다. 3분씩 설교하게 되었습니다. 본문을 미리 주는 것이 아닙니다. 강단에 서면, 내가 본문을 말해줍니다. 본문을 찾아 읽고 설교하는데, 3분이라는 시간은 통역자가 본문을 말한 그 순간부터 계산됩니다. Last evening, we had sermon exam. Each student was given 3 minutes. As they stand at the pulpit, I give them scripture. Each has to find the scripture and read, and preach within the three minutes.
모두 36명이 출전했습니다. 새벽 12:30분이 되어서야 끝났습니다. 나는 2점 만점을 두 명에게 주었습니다. All were 36. The exam ended at 12:30am. Two students got full score, 2.0.
첫 번째 만점자는 미겔입니다. 그날 저녁 자기가 섬기는 교회에서 예배를 인도해야 한다고 했습니다. 그가 단에 서서 입을 열고 30초도 되지 않아서 나는 눈물을 감출 수가 없었습니다. 그는 정말 말씀의 사람이었습니다. The first student with 2.0 was Miguel, the pastor of the church at Agua Dios, a village for leprosy. He was supposed to lead a special worship at his church that late night. As he began preaching, I could not but dropped tears. He was a man of preaching the Word.
두 번째 만점자는 마이크(Mike)입니다. 그는 학생들 중에 두 번째로 나이가 많았습니다. 구두시험 때 벌벌 떨다가, 두 손을 모아 하늘을 바라보면서 기도하기도 했습니다. 말이 어눌했습니다. The second perfect score student was Mike. He was the second oldest student. He was with too much tension.
그런데 그가 받은 본문은 열왕기하에서 므낫세를 징계하는 장면이었습니다. 지도자가 바로 서지 못해서 유다가 망했다고 했습니다. 나는 가슴에 큰 도전을 받았습니다. The biblical scripure he had was about the punishment of Manesseh. He proclaimed that if a leader stands wrong, the whole nations will not be blessed. His emphasis was on the responsibility of leaders.
윌리마(Willma)는 시각장애자였습니다. 그가 받은 본문은 욥기 3장입니다. 이 부분은 내가 잘 아는 본문입니다. 학술지에 기고하기도 했었습니다. Willma is a blind student. He had Job 3. I know something about this chapter. Some years before, I wrote an article for a scholarly magazine.
시각장애자를 위한 점자성경이 없다는 생각이 들었습니다. 당황했습니다. 그런데 어떤 학생이 재치있게 성경을 들고 곁에 섰습니다. 어디든 본문이 주어지면 윌마를 위해 읽어주겠다는 준비였습니다. I realized we had no special Bible for the blind. And a student stood up and was ready to read scripture for him.
그런데, 그는 본문이 어디라고 듣자마자, 읽어줄 필요가 없다고 했습니다. 그리고 바로 설교를 시작했습니다. When Willma heard Job 3, he said, "I do not need your help." And he started preaching.
나는 그의 설교를 들으면서 충격에 빠졌습니다. 욥기 본문을 정확하게 이해하고 있었습니다. 그리고, 그것을 자기의 삶과 연결했습니다. 그리고, 모든 학생들의 삶과 목회에서 어떻게 적용할 수 있을 것인지 전했습니다. 박수가 그치지 않았습니다. Hearing the sermon, I was deeply touched. I fell into shock. He understood the text. And he correctly related it to his personal life. And he shared with fellow students how to apply the text in life and ministry. The applause was not cut for a while.
나는 일어났습니다. 한동안 말을 잃었습니다. 그리고 3점을 준다고 했습니다. 그 이유는, 그처럼 훌륭한 설교를 그저 100점만 줄 수가 없기 때문이라고 했습니다. I stood up wit a long silence. I graded him 3.0. I could not give him but 2.0.
마지막은 이형호 집사님 순서였습니다. 정식으로 신학교 수업을 수강한 것이었습니다. 설교는 처음이지 싶었습니다. 그러나 격려의 박수를 많이 받았습니다. Last it was Deacon Lee's order. He must have had first preaching in his life. He received the applause of encouragement plentifully.
이번 선교에서 얻은 것은, 하나님의 역사에 대한 확신입니다. 우리 둘 다 공통적으로 느낀 것은, 우리가 하나님의 섭리 가운데 있었다는 것이었습니다. What we got in this mission was the firm belief about God's guidance.
예수님께서 하늘로 승천하시면서 "하늘과 땅의 권세를 받으셨다고 했습니다. 그리고 제자들에게 당부하셨습니다. 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼으라고 하셨습니다. 주님의 말씀을 가르쳐 지키게 하라고 하셨습니다. Before ascending to the Heaven, Jesus commanded: "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
나는 이번에 네 명의 학생들을 선발했습니다. 모두 교수요원이었습니다. 올해 말로 졸업하는 대학원생들 가운데 구약 둘, 신약 둘 모두 네 명의 학생들을 선발한 것입니다. 내가 3개월에 한번씩 강의자료를 보내주면, 학교에서 3일간 머물면서 공부하기로 한 것입니다. 학교는 숙식을 무료로 제공하기로 했습니다. I selected four graduate students, who would teach as professors of the seminary. Two are to study Old Testament, and two are New Testament. They will have quarterly special classes with the materials I am about to send. The seminary promised them to provide room and board.
이번에 나를 도와 통역한 분은 김성환 선교사님입니다. 한국외대에서 스페인어를 공부했고, 신학교를 나오자마자 콜롬비아로 파송되었습니다. 콜롬비아 전체에 200명의 한인이 살고 있습니다. 선교사는 모두 다섯 가정입니다. 김 선교사님은 68년 생으로 가장 젊습니다. My translator this time was Missionary Sung Hwan Kim. He studied Spanish at the Korea Foreign Language University. After finishing M.Div. at a seminary, he applied for Colombia mission. There live 200 Koreans in Colombia and five missionary families. Missionary Kim was born in 1960, 38 years old, and he is the youngest among the missionaries.
김성환 선교사님께서 3개월마다 열리는 특별강의에 인도자로 수고하기로 했습니다. 내가 1년에 한 두 차례 방문해서 강의합니다. 이렇게 해서 2년 동안 공부하고 논문을 쓰면 콜롬비아 신학교 교수 네 명이 생겨나는 것입니다. He promised to serve the quarterly special classes with the four professor-to-be students. In addition, I will visit the seminary twice a year and teach. They will study two years this way, and will be qualified to teach as professors.
구약을 담당할 미겔은 문둥병자 촌 아구아 디오스에서 사역하는 목사입니다. 아내는 그 마을 병원 간호사입니다. 그는 참 진실한 목회자입니다. 그 젊은 부부는 헌신적으로 사역을 감당하고 있습니다. Miguel is an Old Testament student, who is pastor of Agua Dios (Water of God), a small town of leprosy. His wife is a nurse of a hospital in the city. The young pastor and his wife serves God with might and hearts.
구약을 담당할 또 다른 학생 윌리암은 후사가수가 교회의 담임목사입니다. 4년 전에 교회를 개척했는데, 지금은 장년 60명이 모인다고 했습니다. 지난 금요일 저녁에 그 교회를 방문했습니다. Another Old Testament students was William, the pastor of a new church at Fusagasuga. He established the church four years ago. Currently the church has about 60 active members. Last Friday, I visited his church. They paid 125 US dollars monthly for rent.
신약을 담당할 학생 하나는 하이로입니다. 그는 게릴라 지역인 파스카에서 목회하고 있습니다. A New Testament student is Hairo, who ministers at Paska, a garilla-occupied area.
신약을 담당할 또 다른 학생은 지오바니입니다. 그는 세 시간 떨어진 교회에서 부교역자로 사역을 맡았습니다. Another New Testament student was Giovany. He serves a church, somewhat 3 hour distance from the seminary, as an asistant minister.
금요일 오전에는 보고타의 Love and Grace 장로교회를 방문했습니다. 내가 가르치는 대학원생 깔데론이 개척 담임하고 있는 교회입니다. 이 교회는 보고타에서 가장 위험한 지역에 위치하고 있습니다. 밤이건 낮이건 위험한 지역입니다. 뉴스 때마다 거의 빠지지 않고 등장하는 지역입니다. 경찰도 손쓰지 못합니다. 군인이 출동해야 겨우 어떻게 진정되는 지역인데, 여기 교회가 섰습니다. Last Friday morning, we visited a church in Bogota, named "Love and Grace Presbyterian Church." This is the church Calderon, my student, established. This church located at a dangerous area in Bogota. The area have been mentioned for most news about crime. Not police but army could control them in the day time only. The church stands there.
이 교회 바로 곁에 약 150평의 대지를 이번에 구입하게 되었습니다. 그 지역 장로교회 노회장을 두 차례 역임한 목사님을 청해 만났습니다. 금문교회에서 마련한 2,500불을 그 노회장에게 맡겼습니다. We supported the church to purchase a 1,200 sf land next to the renting church building. We met a pastor from the Central Presbytery of Bogota. We gave the 2,500 dollars to him and asked the money be used to purchase the site. He promised.
이 노회는 우리 미국장로교단과 같은 장로교단에 속했습니다. Love and Grace 교회는 이 노회를 통해 우리교회의 지원을 받고 있는 것입니다. The Presbytery belongs to the PC(USA), our denomination. We support the Love and Grace Presbyterian Church through the Presbytery.
구두시험 중에 어떤 학생이 물었습니다. "조 목사님은 바쁘실 텐데 어떻게 해서 여기까지 와서 선교하게 되었느냐고?" 나는 말했습니다. 하나님께서 여러분을 사랑할 마음을 주셨다고 했습니다. 다른 이유를 들라면, 55년 전에 한국전쟁으로 온 국토가 불바다 되었을 때 16개국이 참전해 대한민국을 도왔는데, 콜롬비아는 남미에서 유일하게 그 16개국에 속한 나라라고 했습니다. 그러나 그게 동기가 된 것은 아닙니다. 나중에 보니 그랬다는 것입니다. During the oral exam, a student asked: "I think you must be busy minister. How come you work for Colombia that much?“ I answered, "God gave the mind of loving this country.” During the Korean War (1950-53), 16 countries supported South Korea. Colombia was the only country in the South America. The fact, however, did not serve as the decisive background for our mission.
사실 그런 인연이 아니라고 해도, 우리는 선교의 사명이 있습니다. 콜롬비아가 특별히 우리교회의 선교 대상국이 된 것은 하나님의 섭리입니다. 선교는 어떤 사회-정치적인 배경을 두지 않습니다. Regardless of the connection, we have mission vision given by God. It is God who gave us the mission vision for Colombia. Mission is not an action to any socio-political context.
교회는 선교하면서 성장합니다. 교회의 존재 이유는 선교입니다. 그러나, 선교하기 위해서는 금문교회가 성장해야 합니다. 선교하려면 성장해야 하고, 선교하는 교회가 성장합니다. 이런 의미에서 성장과 선교는 ‘동시적 사건’입니다. 우리는 아직 작은 교회니까 선교의 규모가 작을 수밖에 없습니다. 물질적인 차원에서 그렇다는 것입니다. 금문교회가 성장하면서 선교의 대상국이 늘어날 것이고, 여러 가지 모습에서 선교가 확장될 것입니다. A church grows with mission vision. The existence reason of a church can be seen in mission. For a better misison, however, a church needs to grow. A grown church can do mission; a church with mission grows. In this sense, mission and growth are simultaneous events. GG Church is small in its number; and its mission budget is small. As we grow, we can reach out to more peoples.
그렇지만 금문교회는 선교를 위해 성장할 때까지 기다리지 않습니다. 주님께서 주신 달란트가 있습니다. 교수선교라는 점에서 그렇습니다. 어차피 해외선교는 본토인을 양육해서 자기 나라의 목회와 목회자 교육을 담당해야 합니다. 선교가 ‘문화침략’의 오명을 벗는 길입니다. 그런 의미에서 금문교회의 콜롬비아 선교는 바른 궤도에 올랐다고 하겠습니다. But Jesus already gave us a certain amount of talents. We do not wait for growth. We have a focus in 'teaching mission.' Any forei후 misison is to educate native students and let them serve their country. This is a way for mission not to be named as 'cultural invasion.' In this sense, our mission stands at a right track.
1. 신학교 교육을 담당합니다. 1년에 두 차례 방문해서 교육합니다. 2. 네 명의 교수요원을 발굴해서 교육하며 지원합니다. 3개월에 한 차례씩 진행되는 특별 클라스는 김성환 선교사님의 도움으로 진행됩니다. 3. 신학생이 개척해서 사역하는 교회에 교회 운영비와 목회자 생활비, 대지 구입비 등을 지급합니다. 이런 정도라면 매주 100명이 조금 넘는 금문교회가 할 수 있는 최선을 다하고 있다고 믿습니다. 1. We teach at a seminary. 2. We support four students who would teach at there as professors. 3. We support a church where a seminary student serves God. We believe these are something that a small church with 100 active members works for God.
통역을 맡은 김성환 선교사님은 평생을 콜롬비아에서 헌신하겠다고 했습니다. 나는 ‘샌프란시스코 목회가 이미 세계선교’라고 했습니다. 동의한다고 했습니다. 금문교회 선교비전(Mission Statement)에 드러난 대로, 우리는 세계가 모였다가 세계로 흩어지는 베이지역을 복음화함으로써 땅 끝까지 이르러 주님의 증인이 되는 선교 사명을 감당하고 있습니다. The translator Missionary Sung Hwan Kim devoted his life-time to Colombia. I said the ministry at San Francisco area itself is world mission. He agreed. As revealed in the Mission Statement of GGKPC, we obey Jesus's command for the mission as we evangelize the Bay area where the world meets.
어떻게 베이지역을 ‘복음화’할 수 있습니까? 모든 사람들을 다 그리스도께로 인도할 수는 없겠습니다. 그러나, “가장 이상적인 교회,” “가장 성경적인 교회”로 성장하는 것, 이것이 복음화라고 생각합니다. "금문교회는 정말 교회다운 교회다. 이런 교회는 꼭 있어야 한다. 이런 교회는 성장해야 한다. 금문교회를 보니 ‘언젠가 예수님을 믿어야겠다.’" 이런 생각이 들게 하는 교회로 자라야 합니다. 꼭 500명, 1,000명이 넘는 대형교회가 아니더라도, 정말 건강하게 성장하며 선교하는 교회로 ‘존재하는 것 자체’가 이미 복음화라고 나는 믿습니다. How can we evangelize the Bay area? We may not lead "all" the people to Christ. But as we grow to be the most ideal church, the most biblical church, we evangelize this area. We must make people think, "GG Church is real church. This church is to be here. This church is to grow. Someday I want to be a Christian." We have to grow as the very church. We may not be with 500 or 1,000 members. But as we grow as a healthy church with powerful mission vision, we fulfill the very commands of Jesus Christ.
우리의 어린아이 교육도 그렇습니다. 세계를 내다보고 신앙교육을 시켜야겠습니다. 대개 이민교회의 2세들이 받기만 하면서 지내다가 끝내 불만족의 상태로 교회를 떠납니다. 그러나 세계선교의 비전을 심고 교육받는 아이들은 그 꿈을 버리지 않습니다. This same principle is to be applied to children education. We must educate them with the world vision. Many second generation children leave church as they have been educated passively. With the world vision, however, they will keep the faith and stand on the walk of faith.
300 Crocker Ave. Daly City에 자리잡은 금문교회는 참 축복 받은 교회입니다. 나는 금문교회 목사로 사역하는 것을 자랑스럽게 여깁니다. Golden Gate Church at 300 Crocker Ave., Daly City, is very much blessed. I am proud of my ministry at this church.
여러분의 가정에서 예배하고 기도할 때마다 교회를 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 교회가 축복 받아야 여러분 가정이 축복 받습니다. 교회가 행복해야 여러분 가정이 행복합니다. 신앙생활에 불만이 있는 가정에서 행복할 수 없습니다. 이런 점에서, 여러분의 날마다 교회를 위한 기도를 쉬지 말기를 당부드립니다. Please pray for church as you worship and pray at home each day. As church be blessed, your homes will be blessed. If church is happy, your homes would be happy. It may not possible for you to be happy when you attend unhappy church. I ask you to pray for church everyday.
이번에는 태권도 선교였습니다. 이것은 계속되어야 한다고 생각합니다. 나는 내가 콜롬비아를 방문할 때마다 하나님께서 허락하시면 이형호 집사님과 함께 가려고 합니다. 본인도 그렇게 하겠다고 했습니다. 이제 여러분들께서 기도 중에 합력해 주실 일은, 이번처럼 비행기표와 장비 구입 등을 위한 특별 헌금을 드리는 것입니다. 또, 의료선교가 필요합니다. 언제라도 금문교회 의료팀이 콜롬비아를 방문할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 몇 개월 전에 처음으로 이영하 선교사님의 따님이 함께 공부하는 의대 및 치대 학생들을 ‘의료선교팀’으로 만들어 콜롬비아에서 선교했다고 들었습니다. 의대생들이 진료하는 동안, 모여선 수 백 명의 사람들에게 신학생들은 복음을 전했습니다. 평생 치과에 한번도 가 본 적이 없는 사람들이 많았다고 했습니다. 그들은 처음 며칠 동안은 빙빙 돌기만 했다고 했습니다. 한 주일이 지나자, 그 줄이 끝이 보이지 않았다고 했습니다. Medicine mission is needed. I hope someday GG Medicine Mission visit Colombia. Some months before, for the first time, a group of medical and dental school students from Korea visited Colombia for the mission. Missionary YH Lee's daughters were among them. While they treated people, seminary students preached. Missionary Lee said there were a number of Colombians who never visited dental office in their lives. For the first some days, they did not ask for treatment. In the next week, however, it is said the line was endless.
이번 콜롬비아에서 배운 것은 이것입니다. 콜롬비아 신학생들은 어떤 거리에 서서 복음을 전해도 부끄러워하지 않는다는 것입니다. 진지하고 열정적으로 말씀을 전합니다. 태권도와 의료 등으로 그런 자리를 만들어 주는 것은 우리의 몫입니다. 우리는 그냥 주기만 하는 것이 아닙니다. 엄청난 은혜를 받고 돌아오는 것입니다. 이번에 이형호 집사님과 내가 그렇게 은혜 받고 온 것처럼 말입니다. This what I learned from the students of Colombia. They do not feel shame while they deliver the gospel anywhere. They were full of the Spirit. With Taekwondo and medicine and something else, we are expected to give them the chance for them to preach. We not only give them something but get amazing grace from them. This is what Deacon Hyung H Lee and I got in the last week's mission.

We are returning what you have given us through the fields we have worked with tears. Use this for the mission and education. Give all the saints health so that they might work for you with all their mights. In Jesus' name, Amen.

1990년 봄 어느 날이었습니다. 당시 나는 수유리의 어떤 신학대학에 인턴쉽 과정으로 나가 있었습니다. 조정림 전도사와 데이트 교제하던 중이었습니다. 수업 시간 내내 마음이 분주하다가, 끝나자마자 전화 걸었습니다. 종로에서 만나자고. 거기서 말했습니다. “나는 지역 교회 담임목회와 신학교 출강이 사명이다. 그런데 당신의 ‘선교사명’은 내게 없다. 그렇지만, 이렇게는 절충될 것 같다. 1년에 몇 차례 해외 선교지로 나가 신학교 교육을 통해 현지 목회자를 기른다. 어떻게 생각하느냐?” 선교비전을 품은 사역자를 찾던 조정림 전도사에게 거기서 ‘합격점’을 받았습니다. 전혀 선교에 꿈이 없던 내가 콜롬비아에 이렇게 관계된 것입니다.
3년 전, 박사학위를 받은 바로 그해, 시애틀에서 4일간 태평양지역 목회자 계속교육이 열렸습니다. 거기서 나는 매일 아침 성경공부를 인도했습니다. 그때 콜롬비아를 위해 기도하던 어떤 목사님을 만났습니다. 그분을 통해 나는 콜롬비아로 부르시는 하나님의 음성을 들었습니다.
예수님께서 승천하시기 전에 당부하셨습니다. "하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 주님께서 받으셨다. 성령님께서 우리에게 힘 주실 것이다. 모든 족속에게 가라. 성부-성자-성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고 교육하라. 내가 너희와 세상 끝날까지 함께 하겠다."
콜롬비아에서 나는 하나님의 영에 충만합니다. 순수하고 맑은 나라, 하나님만 바라보는 그리스도인의 모습에서 도전을 받습니다. 깨끗하고 밝은 은혜를 받습니다. 내게는 요새가 말할 수 없이 바쁘고 분주한 때입니다. 그러나 콜롬비아에서 지낸 한 주일은 내 영을 맑고 깨끗하게 해주었습니다. 하나님께서 '우선순위'가 분명하게 정리되게 해 주셨습니다.
지난 주중에 나는 다섯 번째 콜롬비아 교수선교여행을 다녀왔습니다. 하나님의 인도하심이었습니다. 여기다가, 여러분의 기도와 후원의 힘이 컸습니다. 나와 동행한 이형호 집사님은 우리교회 첫 번째 태권도 단기 선교사로 수고했습니다. Last Sunday evening, Deacon Hyung Ho Lee and I went to Colombia for a short-term mission. Deacon Lee served there as the first Taekwondo missonary.
통역 선교사님이 늦은 관계로 월요일 저녁 수업은 학생들 가운데 영어가 조금 되는 미겔(Miguel)의 도움을 받아 진행했습니다. 이번에는 대학부와 대학원이 통합된 교육이었습니다. 모두 36명의 정규과정 학생들과 몇 명의 청강생들이었습니다. 구약의 역대상하, 에스라-느헤미야, 시편, 잠언, 아가서, 욥기 등을 공부했습니다. 거의 40시간을 강의했습니다. Translator was late in the first day. And with the help of Miguel, a student, I taught them some introduction. This time we had a mixed class with 36 undergraduate and graduate students.
학생들의 대부분은 현역 목회자들입니다. 19세부터 60세까지 다양했지만, 평균 32세쯤 되는 젊은 클라스였습니다. Most students were active ministers. Youngest was 19 years old; oldest was 60 years old. They were young; average would be early 30s.
콜롬비아 목회자들의 90%가 신학교 다닌 적이 없습니다. 인구의 95%가 넘는 카톨릭의 경우, 정규 교육을 다 받습니다. 그래서 개신교 목회자는 무시당하기 일쑤라고 했습니다. In Colombia, more than 90% Protestatant ministers did not have any seminary education. Catholic church ministers are well-educated. Comparatively, Protestatant ministers have been underestimated.
콜롬비아 교회에는 많은 기적이 일어납니다. 그러나 엄청난 폐해를 끼치는 이단의 온상이 되어왔습니다. 그만큼 콜롬비아에서 신학교 교육은 중요합니다. You may see and hear miracles among Colombian churches. But they have been attacked by false teachings. Theological education is very important there.
보통 금요일 오전까지 수업했습니다. 금요일은 수도 보고타의 교회를 방문할 계획을 세웠기 때문에 목요일 밤까지 수업을 진행했습니다. 수요일은 열 한 시 반에, 목요일은 새벽 열 두 시 반에 수업을 마쳤습니다. Usually, we had class till Friday morning. This time, since we scheduled church visitation at Bogota, Thursday evening was the last class. On Wed, I taught till 11:30pm, and on Thurs, I taught till 12:30am.
태권도 선교 이야기를 간단히 전합니다. 월요일에 시범을 보여 광고했습니다. 화-수-목 저녁마다 태권도 교육을 통한 선교가 있었습니다. 저녁 여덟 시부터 한 시간 반 가량 걸렸습니다. 장소는 시청 앞 광장이었습니다. 보통 중-고등학교 운동장 규모의 광장에 매일 100명 가까운 사람들이 모여들었습니다. Let me talk about Taekwondo mission. In the evening of Monday, we had a permit for Taekwondo and performed half an hour for so that they might be infromed for the week's education. Every evening of Tuesday, Wed, and Thursday, we had Taekwondo at the Civic Center Square. Every evening we had about 100 people.
한 주일 동안, 저녁마다 우렁찬 한국말 기합소리가 후사가수가 시내를 뒤흔들었습니다. 태권도 열기가 한창 고조되었을 때, 학생 목회자들이 나와 설교했습니다. 정말 불을 뿜는 열정이 넘치는 설교였습니다. Last week, every evening, Fusagasuga City was full of Korean shouting. At the end of each day, a seminary student preached the gospel. They spoke for God with full power of the Holy Spirit.
가까운 지역에서 목회하는 윌리엄이 인도하는 보충 설교도 듣기 위해 여럿이 그를 둘러쌌습니다. After the sermon, Minister William, the Pastor of a Presbyterian church of the city, spoke some additional messages.
여기저기에서 기도 그룹이 형성되었습니다. 빙 둘러서서 손을 서로 잡고, 기도 인도자가 돌아가면서 몸에 손을 얹고 안수기도 해 주는 것이었습니다. There occurred prayer meetings. Standing in a cycle, they held hands one another and prayed for each other. Prayer leaders made some special prayer.
그런데, 이 기도팀들의 주요 인도자 헤르손(Gerson)은 열 아홉 살입니다. 그는 교회에서 산다고 했습니다. 어머니가 돌아가셨고, 아버지는 얼굴도 모릅니다. 그런데도 씩씩하고 바르게 자랐습니다. A major leader of the prayer meetings is Gerson, 19 years old. He stays at church. He lost mother some years ago. He does not remember his father. But he was healthy, full of the Holy Spirit.
강의가 끝나고 시험이 있었습니다. ‘구두시험’을 실시했습니다. 두 가지로 구성되었습니다. 내용 질문-대답이 3점, 설교가 2점, 모두 5점입니다. After the classes, students had oral examination. This was composed of two parts: question-answer(3 points) and a sermon (2 points).
마지막 날 순서가 설교 시험이었습니다. 3분씩 설교하게 되었습니다. 본문을 미리 주는 것이 아닙니다. 강단에 서면, 내가 본문을 말해줍니다. 본문을 찾아 읽고 설교하는데, 3분이라는 시간은 통역자가 본문을 말한 그 순간부터 계산됩니다. Last evening, we had sermon exam. Each student was given 3 minutes. As they stand at the pulpit, I give them scripture. Each has to find the scripture and read, and preach within the three minutes.
모두 36명이 출전했습니다. 새벽 12:30분이 되어서야 끝났습니다. 나는 2점 만점을 두 명에게 주었습니다. All were 36. The exam ended at 12:30am. Two students got full score, 2.0.
첫 번째 만점자는 미겔입니다. 그날 저녁 자기가 섬기는 교회에서 예배를 인도해야 한다고 했습니다. 그가 단에 서서 입을 열고 30초도 되지 않아서 나는 눈물을 감출 수가 없었습니다. 그는 정말 말씀의 사람이었습니다. The first student with 2.0 was Miguel, the pastor of the church at Agua Dios, a village for leprosy. He was supposed to lead a special worship at his church that late night. As he began preaching, I could not but dropped tears. He was a man of preaching the Word.
두 번째 만점자는 마이크(Mike)입니다. 그는 학생들 중에 두 번째로 나이가 많았습니다. 구두시험 때 벌벌 떨다가, 두 손을 모아 하늘을 바라보면서 기도하기도 했습니다. 말이 어눌했습니다. The second perfect score student was Mike. He was the second oldest student. He was with too much tension.
그런데 그가 받은 본문은 열왕기하에서 므낫세를 징계하는 장면이었습니다. 지도자가 바로 서지 못해서 유다가 망했다고 했습니다. 나는 가슴에 큰 도전을 받았습니다. The biblical scripure he had was about the punishment of Manesseh. He proclaimed that if a leader stands wrong, the whole nations will not be blessed. His emphasis was on the responsibility of leaders.
윌리마(Willma)는 시각장애자였습니다. 그가 받은 본문은 욥기 3장입니다. 이 부분은 내가 잘 아는 본문입니다. 학술지에 기고하기도 했었습니다. Willma is a blind student. He had Job 3. I know something about this chapter. Some years before, I wrote an article for a scholarly magazine.
시각장애자를 위한 점자성경이 없다는 생각이 들었습니다. 당황했습니다. 그런데 어떤 학생이 재치있게 성경을 들고 곁에 섰습니다. 어디든 본문이 주어지면 윌마를 위해 읽어주겠다는 준비였습니다. I realized we had no special Bible for the blind. And a student stood up and was ready to read scripture for him.
그런데, 그는 본문이 어디라고 듣자마자, 읽어줄 필요가 없다고 했습니다. 그리고 바로 설교를 시작했습니다. When Willma heard Job 3, he said, "I do not need your help." And he started preaching.
나는 그의 설교를 들으면서 충격에 빠졌습니다. 욥기 본문을 정확하게 이해하고 있었습니다. 그리고, 그것을 자기의 삶과 연결했습니다. 그리고, 모든 학생들의 삶과 목회에서 어떻게 적용할 수 있을 것인지 전했습니다. 박수가 그치지 않았습니다. Hearing the sermon, I was deeply touched. I fell into shock. He understood the text. And he correctly related it to his personal life. And he shared with fellow students how to apply the text in life and ministry. The applause was not cut for a while.
나는 일어났습니다. 한동안 말을 잃었습니다. 그리고 3점을 준다고 했습니다. 그 이유는, 그처럼 훌륭한 설교를 그저 100점만 줄 수가 없기 때문이라고 했습니다. I stood up wit a long silence. I graded him 3.0. I could not give him but 2.0.
마지막은 이형호 집사님 순서였습니다. 정식으로 신학교 수업을 수강한 것이었습니다. 설교는 처음이지 싶었습니다. 그러나 격려의 박수를 많이 받았습니다. Last it was Deacon Lee's order. He must have had first preaching in his life. He received the applause of encouragement plentifully.
이번 선교에서 얻은 것은, 하나님의 역사에 대한 확신입니다. 우리 둘 다 공통적으로 느낀 것은, 우리가 하나님의 섭리 가운데 있었다는 것이었습니다. What we got in this mission was the firm belief about God's guidance.
예수님께서 하늘로 승천하시면서 "하늘과 땅의 권세를 받으셨다고 했습니다. 그리고 제자들에게 당부하셨습니다. 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼으라고 하셨습니다. 주님의 말씀을 가르쳐 지키게 하라고 하셨습니다. Before ascending to the Heaven, Jesus commanded: "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
나는 이번에 네 명의 학생들을 선발했습니다. 모두 교수요원이었습니다. 올해 말로 졸업하는 대학원생들 가운데 구약 둘, 신약 둘 모두 네 명의 학생들을 선발한 것입니다. 내가 3개월에 한번씩 강의자료를 보내주면, 학교에서 3일간 머물면서 공부하기로 한 것입니다. 학교는 숙식을 무료로 제공하기로 했습니다. I selected four graduate students, who would teach as professors of the seminary. Two are to study Old Testament, and two are New Testament. They will have quarterly special classes with the materials I am about to send. The seminary promised them to provide room and board.
이번에 나를 도와 통역한 분은 김성환 선교사님입니다. 한국외대에서 스페인어를 공부했고, 신학교를 나오자마자 콜롬비아로 파송되었습니다. 콜롬비아 전체에 200명의 한인이 살고 있습니다. 선교사는 모두 다섯 가정입니다. 김 선교사님은 68년 생으로 가장 젊습니다. My translator this time was Missionary Sung Hwan Kim. He studied Spanish at the Korea Foreign Language University. After finishing M.Div. at a seminary, he applied for Colombia mission. There live 200 Koreans in Colombia and five missionary families. Missionary Kim was born in 1960, 38 years old, and he is the youngest among the missionaries.
김성환 선교사님께서 3개월마다 열리는 특별강의에 인도자로 수고하기로 했습니다. 내가 1년에 한 두 차례 방문해서 강의합니다. 이렇게 해서 2년 동안 공부하고 논문을 쓰면 콜롬비아 신학교 교수 네 명이 생겨나는 것입니다. He promised to serve the quarterly special classes with the four professor-to-be students. In addition, I will visit the seminary twice a year and teach. They will study two years this way, and will be qualified to teach as professors.
구약을 담당할 미겔은 문둥병자 촌 아구아 디오스에서 사역하는 목사입니다. 아내는 그 마을 병원 간호사입니다. 그는 참 진실한 목회자입니다. 그 젊은 부부는 헌신적으로 사역을 감당하고 있습니다. Miguel is an Old Testament student, who is pastor of Agua Dios (Water of God), a small town of leprosy. His wife is a nurse of a hospital in the city. The young pastor and his wife serves God with might and hearts.
구약을 담당할 또 다른 학생 윌리암은 후사가수가 교회의 담임목사입니다. 4년 전에 교회를 개척했는데, 지금은 장년 60명이 모인다고 했습니다. 지난 금요일 저녁에 그 교회를 방문했습니다. Another Old Testament students was William, the pastor of a new church at Fusagasuga. He established the church four years ago. Currently the church has about 60 active members. Last Friday, I visited his church. They paid 125 US dollars monthly for rent.
신약을 담당할 학생 하나는 하이로입니다. 그는 게릴라 지역인 파스카에서 목회하고 있습니다. A New Testament student is Hairo, who ministers at Paska, a garilla-occupied area.
신약을 담당할 또 다른 학생은 지오바니입니다. 그는 세 시간 떨어진 교회에서 부교역자로 사역을 맡았습니다. Another New Testament student was Giovany. He serves a church, somewhat 3 hour distance from the seminary, as an asistant minister.
금요일 오전에는 보고타의 Love and Grace 장로교회를 방문했습니다. 내가 가르치는 대학원생 깔데론이 개척 담임하고 있는 교회입니다. 이 교회는 보고타에서 가장 위험한 지역에 위치하고 있습니다. 밤이건 낮이건 위험한 지역입니다. 뉴스 때마다 거의 빠지지 않고 등장하는 지역입니다. 경찰도 손쓰지 못합니다. 군인이 출동해야 겨우 어떻게 진정되는 지역인데, 여기 교회가 섰습니다. Last Friday morning, we visited a church in Bogota, named "Love and Grace Presbyterian Church." This is the church Calderon, my student, established. This church located at a dangerous area in Bogota. The area have been mentioned for most news about crime. Not police but army could control them in the day time only. The church stands there.
이 교회 바로 곁에 약 150평의 대지를 이번에 구입하게 되었습니다. 그 지역 장로교회 노회장을 두 차례 역임한 목사님을 청해 만났습니다. 금문교회에서 마련한 2,500불을 그 노회장에게 맡겼습니다. We supported the church to purchase a 1,200 sf land next to the renting church building. We met a pastor from the Central Presbytery of Bogota. We gave the 2,500 dollars to him and asked the money be used to purchase the site. He promised.
이 노회는 우리 미국장로교단과 같은 장로교단에 속했습니다. Love and Grace 교회는 이 노회를 통해 우리교회의 지원을 받고 있는 것입니다. The Presbytery belongs to the PC(USA), our denomination. We support the Love and Grace Presbyterian Church through the Presbytery.
구두시험 중에 어떤 학생이 물었습니다. "조 목사님은 바쁘실 텐데 어떻게 해서 여기까지 와서 선교하게 되었느냐고?" 나는 말했습니다. 하나님께서 여러분을 사랑할 마음을 주셨다고 했습니다. 다른 이유를 들라면, 55년 전에 한국전쟁으로 온 국토가 불바다 되었을 때 16개국이 참전해 대한민국을 도왔는데, 콜롬비아는 남미에서 유일하게 그 16개국에 속한 나라라고 했습니다. 그러나 그게 동기가 된 것은 아닙니다. 나중에 보니 그랬다는 것입니다. During the oral exam, a student asked: "I think you must be busy minister. How come you work for Colombia that much?“ I answered, "God gave the mind of loving this country.” During the Korean War (1950-53), 16 countries supported South Korea. Colombia was the only country in the South America. The fact, however, did not serve as the decisive background for our mission.
사실 그런 인연이 아니라고 해도, 우리는 선교의 사명이 있습니다. 콜롬비아가 특별히 우리교회의 선교 대상국이 된 것은 하나님의 섭리입니다. 선교는 어떤 사회-정치적인 배경을 두지 않습니다. Regardless of the connection, we have mission vision given by God. It is God who gave us the mission vision for Colombia. Mission is not an action to any socio-political context.
교회는 선교하면서 성장합니다. 교회의 존재 이유는 선교입니다. 그러나, 선교하기 위해서는 금문교회가 성장해야 합니다. 선교하려면 성장해야 하고, 선교하는 교회가 성장합니다. 이런 의미에서 성장과 선교는 ‘동시적 사건’입니다. 우리는 아직 작은 교회니까 선교의 규모가 작을 수밖에 없습니다. 물질적인 차원에서 그렇다는 것입니다. 금문교회가 성장하면서 선교의 대상국이 늘어날 것이고, 여러 가지 모습에서 선교가 확장될 것입니다. A church grows with mission vision. The existence reason of a church can be seen in mission. For a better misison, however, a church needs to grow. A grown church can do mission; a church with mission grows. In this sense, mission and growth are simultaneous events. GG Church is small in its number; and its mission budget is small. As we grow, we can reach out to more peoples.
그렇지만 금문교회는 선교를 위해 성장할 때까지 기다리지 않습니다. 주님께서 주신 달란트가 있습니다. 교수선교라는 점에서 그렇습니다. 어차피 해외선교는 본토인을 양육해서 자기 나라의 목회와 목회자 교육을 담당해야 합니다. 선교가 ‘문화침략’의 오명을 벗는 길입니다. 그런 의미에서 금문교회의 콜롬비아 선교는 바른 궤도에 올랐다고 하겠습니다. But Jesus already gave us a certain amount of talents. We do not wait for growth. We have a focus in 'teaching mission.' Any forei후 misison is to educate native students and let them serve their country. This is a way for mission not to be named as 'cultural invasion.' In this sense, our mission stands at a right track.
1. 신학교 교육을 담당합니다. 1년에 두 차례 방문해서 교육합니다. 2. 네 명의 교수요원을 발굴해서 교육하며 지원합니다. 3개월에 한 차례씩 진행되는 특별 클라스는 김성환 선교사님의 도움으로 진행됩니다. 3. 신학생이 개척해서 사역하는 교회에 교회 운영비와 목회자 생활비, 대지 구입비 등을 지급합니다. 이런 정도라면 매주 100명이 조금 넘는 금문교회가 할 수 있는 최선을 다하고 있다고 믿습니다. 1. We teach at a seminary. 2. We support four students who would teach at there as professors. 3. We support a church where a seminary student serves God. We believe these are something that a small church with 100 active members works for God.
통역을 맡은 김성환 선교사님은 평생을 콜롬비아에서 헌신하겠다고 했습니다. 나는 ‘샌프란시스코 목회가 이미 세계선교’라고 했습니다. 동의한다고 했습니다. 금문교회 선교비전(Mission Statement)에 드러난 대로, 우리는 세계가 모였다가 세계로 흩어지는 베이지역을 복음화함으로써 땅 끝까지 이르러 주님의 증인이 되는 선교 사명을 감당하고 있습니다. The translator Missionary Sung Hwan Kim devoted his life-time to Colombia. I said the ministry at San Francisco area itself is world mission. He agreed. As revealed in the Mission Statement of GGKPC, we obey Jesus's command for the mission as we evangelize the Bay area where the world meets.
어떻게 베이지역을 ‘복음화’할 수 있습니까? 모든 사람들을 다 그리스도께로 인도할 수는 없겠습니다. 그러나, “가장 이상적인 교회,” “가장 성경적인 교회”로 성장하는 것, 이것이 복음화라고 생각합니다. "금문교회는 정말 교회다운 교회다. 이런 교회는 꼭 있어야 한다. 이런 교회는 성장해야 한다. 금문교회를 보니 ‘언젠가 예수님을 믿어야겠다.’" 이런 생각이 들게 하는 교회로 자라야 합니다. 꼭 500명, 1,000명이 넘는 대형교회가 아니더라도, 정말 건강하게 성장하며 선교하는 교회로 ‘존재하는 것 자체’가 이미 복음화라고 나는 믿습니다. How can we evangelize the Bay area? We may not lead "all" the people to Christ. But as we grow to be the most ideal church, the most biblical church, we evangelize this area. We must make people think, "GG Church is real church. This church is to be here. This church is to grow. Someday I want to be a Christian." We have to grow as the very church. We may not be with 500 or 1,000 members. But as we grow as a healthy church with powerful mission vision, we fulfill the very commands of Jesus Christ.
우리의 어린아이 교육도 그렇습니다. 세계를 내다보고 신앙교육을 시켜야겠습니다. 대개 이민교회의 2세들이 받기만 하면서 지내다가 끝내 불만족의 상태로 교회를 떠납니다. 그러나 세계선교의 비전을 심고 교육받는 아이들은 그 꿈을 버리지 않습니다. This same principle is to be applied to children education. We must educate them with the world vision. Many second generation children leave church as they have been educated passively. With the world vision, however, they will keep the faith and stand on the walk of faith.

이번에는 태권도 선교였습니다. 이것은 계속되어야 한다고 생각합니다. 나는 내가 콜롬비아를 방문할 때마다 하나님께서 허락하시면 이형호 집사님과 함께 가려고 합니다. 본인도 그렇게 하겠다고 했습니다. 이제 여러분들께서 기도 중에 합력해 주실 일은, 이번처럼 비행기표와 장비 구입 등을 위한 특별 헌금을 드리는 것입니다. This time we had Takwondo misison. I believe this must go on. If God permits, whenever I visit Colombai, I would like to be with Deacon Hyung H. Lee. He agreed. You may participate in this with prayer and offering good for airline ticket and some materials.
또, 의료선교가 필요합니다. 언제라도 금문교회 의료팀이 콜롬비아를 방문할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 몇 개월 전에 처음으로 이영하 선교사님의 따님이 함께 공부하는 의대 및 치대 학생들을 ‘의료선교팀’으로 만들어 콜롬비아에서 선교했다고 들었습니다. 의대생들이 진료하는 동안, 모여선 수 백 명의 사람들에게 신학생들은 복음을 전했습니다. 평생 치과에 한번도 가 본 적이 없는 사람들이 많았다고 했습니다. 그들은 처음 며칠 동안은 빙빙 돌기만 했다고 했습니다. 한 주일이 지나자, 그 줄이 끝이 보이지 않았다고 했습니다. Medicine mission is needed. I hope someday GG Medicine Mission visit Colombia. Some months before, for the first time, a group of medical and dental school students from Korea visited Colombia for the mission. Missionary YH Lee's daughters were among them. While they treated people, seminary students preached. Missionary Lee said there were a number of Colombians who never visited dental office in their lives. For the first some days, they did not ask for treatment. In the next week, however, it is said the line was endless.
이번 콜롬비아에서 배운 것은 이것입니다. 콜롬비아 신학생들은 어떤 거리에 서서 복음을 전해도 부끄러워하지 않는다는 것입니다. 진지하고 열정적으로 말씀을 전합니다. 태권도와 의료 등으로 그런 자리를 만들어 주는 것은 우리의 몫입니다. 우리는 그냥 주기만 하는 것이 아닙니다. 엄청난 은혜를 받고 돌아오는 것입니다. 이번에 이형호 집사님과 내가 그렇게 은혜 받고 온 것처럼 말입니다. This what I learned from the students of Colombia. They do not feel shame while they deliver the gospel anywhere. They were full of the Spirit. With Taekwondo and medicine and something else, we are expected to give them the chance for them to preach. We not only give them something but get amazing grace from them. This is what Deacon Hyung H Lee and I got in the last week's mission.
우리는 그리스도인입니다. 그리스도인은 예수님의 명령을 순종하는 사람들입니다. 돈이나 명예를 따라 사는 인생이 아닙니다. 주님의 명령을 따라 살아가는 삶입니다. 금문인들은 이런 사명을 생명으로 알고 살아가시기를 바랍니다. 여기 축복의 길이 있습니다. 아멘. We are Christians, who obey the commands of Jesus Christ. We do not follow money or name. We do follow Jesus. We have been called to take the mission to make our lives. This is the way of blessing. 길과 진리와 생명이 되신 주 예수님. 오늘 저희들은 주님께서 주신 선교의 비전을 나누었습니다. 오늘 저희들이 살아가는 하루하루가 주님께서 허락하신 길임을 믿습니다. 선교의 사명을 감당하게 하옵소서. 날마다 일터에서 일하면서도, 우리 마음은 세계 방방곡곡을 향하여 기도의 씨앗을 뿌리게 하옵소서. 그리하여 우리뿐 아니라 우리 자녀 세대들도 이런 선교의 비전을 품고 그 열매를 거두며 사는 축복을 받게 하옵소서. 이번에 방문하여 복음을 전한 콜롬비아를 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다. 금문인들이 기도로 뿌린 씨앗의 열매를 기쁨으로 거두게 하옵소서. 주 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘. We are returning what you have given us through the fields we have worked with tears. Use this for the mission and education. Give all the saints health so that they might work for you with all their mights. In Jesus' name, Amen.
