목회기도 Pastoral Prayer
사랑하는 주님. 참 감사를 드립니다. 주님의 품을 떠나 죄 짓고 방황하던 영혼들을 불쌍히 여기시사 기다려 주셨습니다. 지치고 상한 마음으로, 부끄럽고 괴로운 심정으로 돌아온 저희들을 사랑해 주셨습니다. 오늘 주님의 제단에서 참된 자유와 기쁨, 진정한 은혜와 사랑을 얻고자 합니다. 주여, 모든 죄를 사해 주시고, 정결한 마음을 회복시켜 주시옵소서. 세상을 살아가는 가운데 세상을 부러워한 나머지 세상과 타협하지 말게 하옵시고, 세상을 두려워하여 굴복하지 말게 하옵소서. 사랑으로 이기게 하옵소서. 죽어가는 수많은 심령들에게 예수 그리스도를 전하는 전도인의 사명을 감당하게 하옵소서. 오늘 예배를 통하여 주님 홀로 영광 받으시옵고, 저희들로 영원한 생명을 얻게 하옵소서. 우리 구주 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘. Loving Father God, we thank you this morning. You have waited for us, as we had depated from your house and wandered in the world. Today, we would like to get true freedom and joy, grace and love in your house. O Lord, forgive our sins and restore the pure hearts. Let us not compromise with the world, not to fear the world. Help us get victory through your love. O God, we want to do all the missions to deliver the Gospel to the world. Give us the strength to do that. In this worship, may your name only be glorified and give us life. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
의를 위하여 핍박을 받은 자는 복이 있나니
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness
고난은 두 가지가 있습니다. 첫째로, 자기가 잘못해서 받는 것입니다. 성경은 이런 고난은 피하라고 가르칩니다. 피하는 방법은 실수나 잘못을 범하지 않도록 기도하며 노력하는 것입니다. 죄를 지어 고난 중에 있을 때는 회개하여 주님의 구원하심을 받아야 합니다. 이런 고난은 아무런 유익이 없습니다. There are two kinds of suffering. The first is that coming from one's own sin. The Bible teaches us to escape this kind of suffering. The way not to be involved in such suffering is to pray and do our best accordingly. In time of suffering from sin, we must repent and get salvation of the Lord. This kind of suffering does not have any goodness.
둘째로, 예수 그리스도를 위해 받는 고난이 있습니다. 이런 것을 ‘그리스도를 위한 핍박’이라고도 하겠습니다. 성경은 이런 고난을 ‘즐겨 받으라’ 권면합니다. 이 고난은 유익합니다. 영혼을 강건케 합니다. 평안의 깊은 의미를 알게 합니다. The second is suffering for Jesus Christ. This is persecution for Christ. The Bible recommands us to get suffering with joy. This suffering gives us goodness. It strengthens our spirit. It teaches the deep dimension of peace.
주님께서는 핍박을 받고 내세에 영생을 얻는 길에 대해 말씀하셨습니다. "No Cross, no Crown." 십자가 없이는 영광도 없다는 속담입니다. "나를 따르려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라." 어째서 사랑하는 자녀들에게 어째서 십자가 같은 고난을 피하지 말라고 권면하셨을까요? 아니, 오히려 십자가를 지는 것이 주님을 따르는 유일한 길임을 지적하셨을까요? 십자가의 길은 유익한 고난이기 때문입니다. Jesus taught us the way of suffering and getting eternal life. "No Cross, no Crown." This means without the Cross, there is no glory. Jesus said, "If you want to follow me, deny yourselves and carry your own crosses, and follow me." Why Jesus asked his loving children not to escape from the suffering like the cross? Why Jesus indicated the cross be the only way to follow him? Because the cross is the only goodness.
사도 바울이 디모데에게 권한 말씀 가운데, “고난을 받으라!”는 적극적인 가르침이 있습니다. Paul wrote Timothy, "Take suffering positively."
영적인 강건함을 위해서는 ‘핍박’이 필요합니다. 그리스도인은 핍박을 통해서 영이 성장합니다. For the growth in spirit, we need persecution. The spirit of a Christians grows with suffering.
일부러 핍박을 자초할 필요는 없을지 모릅니다. 그러나, 어떤 때는 정말 핍박을 사모하기도 합니다. 핍박이 있는 자리를 일부러 찾아가기도 합니다. 거기서 영적 평안을 얻기 때문입니다. We might not need to call for suffering. But, sometimes, we really need persecution. We choose the path of suffering. Because we get spiritual peace right there.
나는 콜롬비아를 갈 때마다 영적인 도전을 받습니다. 그리고 영이 맑아지는 것을 경험합니다. 나 뿐 아니라 그 나라를 방문하여 선교하는 모든 선교사들의 공통된 의견입니다. 콜롬비아는 진실한 그리스도인을 핍박하는 나라입니다. 이런 부류에 드는 나라는 세계 곳곳에 참 많습니다. 불행하게도 북한은 가장 심각하게 핍박하는 두 세 나라에 듭니다. Whenever I fly to Colombia, I got spiritual challenge. And I experienced spiritual purity there. It is not my own exclusive opinion; all the missionaries to Colombia agree to the fact. Colombia persecutes true Christians. There are many countries that can be categorized with Colombia. Unfortunately, North Korea is one of some worst condition.
어째서 예수님을 위한 고난이 그렇게 영적으로 유익할까요? How the suffering for Jesus so good to us?
고난을 통해서 우리는 예수님께서 받으신 모욕, 육체적 고난, 영적 번뇌 등을 경험하기 때문입니다. 그런 경험과 함께, 비로소 주님의 마음을 이해할 수 있게 되는 것입니다. Because through suffering we experience insulting, physical harship, spiritual trial that Jesus had before. With such experiences, we understand the mind of Jesus.
우리가 주님을 사랑하는 한, 우리가 주님의 은혜를 따라 믿음을 지켜 살아가는 한, 우리의 인생에 다가오는 모든 고난은 십자가의 길입니다. 그 모든 고난은 유익합니다. 우리가 주님께 헌신하고 "주님의 자녀"로 살아가는 한, 우리에게 닥친 모든 고난은 다 "의미"가 있습니다. 우리 영혼에 유익합니다. 따라서 버릴 것이 없습니다. As we love Jesus, as we follow the grace of the Lord within the faith, all the sufferings in our lives are on the path of the cross. All the sufferings are good. As long as we devote our lives and live the lives as "the children of the Lord," all the sufferings are meaningful. They are good for our souls. There is, therefore, nothing to discard.
이 책은 폴 브랜드와 필립 얀시가 합력해서 썼습니다. <고통이라는 선물>입니다. 여기서 우리는 "고통"을 주신 하나님께 참 감사해야 할 조건이 많다는 사실을 배웁니다. 고통은 우리 건강을 지키는 파수꾼입니다. 고통은 "자기보호 장치"입니다. 고통이 제거된 사람은 빠른 속도로 자기를 망가뜨립니다. 문둥병이나 몇 가지 병은 이런 무고통이라는 'side effect'를 줍니다. 병 자체보다는 무고통 때문에 사람들은 자기방어를 하지 않습니다. 그래서 스스로 '절제'하지 못합니다. Let me show you a book, written by Paul Brand and Philip Yancy: <The Gift of Pain>. Here, we learn the fact that there are a number of conditions to give thanks to God who gave us sufferings. Suffering, or pain, is the watchman for our health. Suffering is a self-protecting device. Without pain, a man does not protect himself. And he fails in self-control.
영혼의 강건함은 때로 영혼의 갈급함이라는 자기보호기제를 필요로 합니다. 육신의 건강이 스스로 현 상태에 만족하지 못하는 근질근질함에 근거하는 것과 마찬가지입니다. Spiritual health needs spiritual hunger, which is self-protecting device. It is the same rule that physical health depends on physical hunger for sports and physical trainings.
바로 이런 점에서, 예수님의 8복은 "갈급한 심령"을 전제합니다. 천국에 들어가는 가장 근본적인 조건입니다. 어린아이와 같이 신령한 젖을 사모하는 마음입니다. In this sense, the eight beatitudes presume the hungry spirit. It is the very essential condition to get into the Kingdom of God. It is the heart, like a child, asking for the spiritual milk.
오늘 본문은 산상수훈의 여덟 가지 복 가운데 마지막 복입니다. 지난 두 주일 동안 우리는 산상수훈의 몇 가지 복을 순서를 따라 강해했습니다. 심령이 가난한 자 그리고 화평케 하는 자. Today's scripture is the last beatitude in Matthew 5. Last two Sundays, I preached about the two previous beatitudes: the blessings for those who are poor in spirit and the peacemakers.
그런데, “의를 위하여 핍박을 받은 자의 복”은 가만 보면 그 다음에 “나를 인하여 너희를 욕하고 핍박하고 거짓으로 너희를 거스려 모든 악한 말을 할 때”라는 것과 혼동이 됩니다. According to today's scripture, the blessing seems to be a double one: persecution because of righteousness and that because of me, of course, Jesus himself.
어떤 사람들은 “의를 위하여”와 “나를 인하여”를 각각 다른 복으로 여깁니다. 그렇게 되면 8복이 아니라 9복이 되고 맙니다. Some interpret "for righteousness" is different from "for me." If so, what we have is nine beatitudes, not eight.
그러나, 전통을 따라서 우리가 8복이라고 생각한다면, “의를 위하여”와 “나를 인하여”는 같은 내용의 반복인 셈입니다. 나는 대부분의 학자들과 목회자들을 따라 '8복'이라는 입장을 따릅니다. If we follow, however, the long tradition, "for righteousness" and "for me" are the same, a repetition. Following tradition and most of scholars, I take the two are the same.
“의를 위하여”와 “나를 인하여”가 같은 내용의 반복이라면, “의”란 곧 “예수 그리스도”를 의미하는 것임을 알겠습니다. 진리, 길, 생명 등과 마찬가지로 “의”도 예수 그리스도로 ‘의인화’되는 것입니다. If "for righteousness" and "for me" are the same, it logically implies that righteousenss is about Jesus Christ. Like the truth, the way, and the life, the righteousenss is also personified here.
참고로, 성경에 ‘의인’이라고 한 것은, 주님께서 의롭다고 인정하신 사람들을 말합니다. 그들 자체로 ‘선한 사람들’이라는 뜻은 아닙니다. 주님께서 의롭다 하심은 한자어로 ‘칭의’라고 합니다. For reference, in the Bible when there is mention like "a man of righteousness," he is the man whom God recognized like that. It does not necessarily mean that they are righteous by nature. What Jesus recognized to be rightousness is 'justification.'
“의를 위하여 핍박을 받은 자” 라는 말씀과 “예수님 때문에 핍박을 받은 자”를 하나로 묶어서 “예수님을 위해 핍박을 받은 자”라고 통일시키겠습니다. Today's scripture, therefore, is talking about those who are persecuted because of Jesus Christ.
우리가 주님을 위해 핍박을 받는 것은 복입니다. 우리가 무엇인데 정말 예수님을 위하여 핍박을 받을 수 있다는 말입니까? It is our blessing that we are persecuated for Jesus. We are but sinners. And how can we be persecuted for Jesus?
예수님 때문에 핍박을 받는다는 것은, 사람들이 예수님을 싫어해서, 예수님을 핍박하려던 것을 예수님을 사랑하는 우리들을 ‘대신’ 핍박한다는 뜻입니다. 그러니까, 주님께서 받으실 몫을 우리가 받게 된 것입니다. “우리가 예수님 대신 핍박 받을 수 있다니!” 이 얼마나 놀라운 축복입니까? They persecute us for Jesus' name. This means they intended to persecute Jesus, but they do to us in his name. What we have now is what was intended to be portion of Jesus. What a wonderful blessing it is!!
실제는 우리 대신 예수님께서 십자가를 지셨습니다. 그러니까, 우리 이름으로 우리 주님께서 핍박을 당하신 것입니다. 그런데, 이제는 우리 차례입니다. 우리가 예수님의 이름으로 핍박을 받는 것입니다. 이것은 정말 즐거운 일입니다. In fact, Jesus was crucified for us. That means, Jesus was persecuted for us. And it is our turn. We are persecuted in Jesus' name. This is really wonderful thing.
예수님을 너무 너무 사랑하다 보니, 예수님의 이름으로 받는 고난이 오히려 '영광'입니다. 삶의 진정한 목적이 되어 버렸습니다. As we love Jesus that much, the suffering because of him is glory for us. It has become true life goal for us.
구체적으로, 예수님 때문에 받는 고난은 "전도"의 과정에서 나타납니다. 그리스도인이라고 해도 전도 하지 않을 경우 고난은 없습니다. 한 달란트 받았던 사람처럼 스스로를 꽁꽁 싸매서 땅에 묻어 버리면 아무도 위협하지 않습니다. 그런데 전도 없는 신앙은 죽은 것입니다. 고난을 피하는 생명은 이미 죽었습니다. 무릇 살아있는 생명체는 고난을 피할 수 없습니다. 아이들도 아프면서 큰다고 하지 않습니까? As a matter of fact, the suffering for Jesus is perceived in the process of evangelization. A Christian without evangelization will not be involved in persecution. Like the person who got one talent, he could hide his talent under the ground; no one would threathen him. But the faith without evangelization is but a dead one. A living being cannot escape from suffering. A child grows with pain.
월남전 영화 한 토막입니다. 분대원이 작전을 나갔습니다. 김 일병은 물을 마구 마셨습니다. 동료들이 “물을 아껴라!”고 충고했습니다. 그러나 김 일병은 웃어 넘겼습니다. A scene of a film of the Viet Nam War. A team went for a battle. A soldier Kim did not control drinking water. Fellow soldiers advised him save the water, but he did not listen to them.
정작 사막지대에 이르렀을 때 김 일병은 목이 탔습니다. 그러나 아무도 그에게 물을 나눠 주지 않았습니다. 그는 쓰러질 지경에 이르렀습니다. In the center of a desert, Kim was out of water. He needed water but no one shared water with him. He was about to die.
그럴 때, 최 상병이 물통을 주었습니다. 김 일병은 그 물을 남기지 않고 다 마셔 버렸습니다. 다른 동료들이 최 상병을 비난했습니다. 줄 필요가 없는 사람에게 피 같은 물을 주고 말았다고! 그리고 김 일병을 꾸짖었습니다. 그걸 어떻게 다 마셔버리느냐고? And a soldier named Choi gave Kim a water bottle. Kim drank all of it. Fellow soldiers rebuked Choi that he gave the precious water to the ugly guy. And they criticized Kim for drinking the blood-like water to the end.
갑자기 적과 교전이 벌어졌습니다. 갑자기 일어난 사건이었습니다. 여기서 최 상병이 다쳤습니다. 앞서 나가다가 총을 맞은 것입니다. 아무도 최 상병을 끌어다가 참호 쪽으로 데려올 생각을 하지 않았습니다. 이 때 김 일병이 나섰습니다. 총알이 빗발치는 언덕을 향해 돌진했습니다. 그리고 죽어가는 최 상병을 잡아끌고 참호로 돌아왔습니다. 김 일병도 다리에 총을 맞았습니다. 그러나, 그는 오히려 두려워하지 않았습니다. 카메라는 김 일병의 얼굴을 클로즈업 해서 한동안 화면에 가득 채웠습니다. 그는 최 상병을 죽음으로 몰아넣은 적군에게 분노하고 있었습니다. All of a sudden, there happened a battle. Choi, while he was leading the team, was wounded. No one thought of pulling Choi to the bunker. In the moment, Kim came out. He rushed to the hill with a shower of bulletins. He brought the dying Choi back to the bunker. Kim was also wounded, but he did not fear the enemies. The camera closeed up the face of Kim, full of anger against the enemies.
김 일병이 최 상병을 위해 무슨 일을 할 수 있었다는 것은 참 자랑스러운 일입니다. It was a great joy (with righteous anger) for Kim to do somethig for Choi.
오늘 우리가 우리를 살려주신 예수 그리스도를 위해 무슨 일인가 할 수 있다는 것은 참 기쁜 일입니다. 우리를 살려주신 구세주 아니십니까? It is a great joy for us to do someting for Jesus who saved us from death. He is the Savior, isn't he?
예수님을 위해 할 수 있는 일이라면 무슨 일이라도 할 수 있습니다. 내 생명을 드려도 아깝지 않습니다. If it is for Jesus, we can do all things. We can devote our lives for him.
갈라디아 2:20입니다. “내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니, 그런즉 이제 내가 산 것 아니요, 오직 내 안에 예수님께서 사신 것이라. 이제 내가 육체 가운데 사는 것은, 나를 사랑하사 자기 몸 버리신 예수 안에 사는 것이라.” Do you read Galathians 2:20?: I have been crudified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
성도가 예수님의 이름으로 핍박 받는 것은 오히려 기쁜 일입니다. 몸은 고달프고 괴로우나, 심령은 날마다 새롭습니다. 감사와 기쁨이 넘칩니다. “영광”입니다. 우리가 예수님의 고난을 대신 받을 수 있다니! It is a great joy for a Christian to get persecution for Jesus. The body is in trouble, but the spirit is in joy. We are full of thanks and joy. It is the glory for us. What a wonderful thing we do for Jesus!
이 세상의 마귀 권세는 큽니다. 저들은 저들의 때가 얼마 남지 않은 것을 압니다. 그래서 성도들을 하나라도 더 넘어뜨리기 위해 온갖 노력을 다 기울입니다. The worldly Satan has power. They understand their time is short. And they do their best to destroy Christians.
2천 년 전에 예수님을 십자가에 못 박았던 그 세력은, 오늘날까지 성도들을 핍박하고 죽이기도 합니다. The demonic power crucified Jesus two thousand years ago persecutes Christians even today.
오늘 우리는 한국과 미국에서 신앙생활 하면서, 참 안전하다고 생각합니다. 그러나, 세상은 지난 2천 년 역사를 돌아볼 때, 지금처럼 위험한 때가 없었습니다. 수없이 많은 순교자가 생겨나고 있습니다. 지난 1세기 동안 순교한 성도의 수는 그리스도교 2천년 역사 가운데 생겨난 순교자들의 수의 절반을 넘습니다. 지금은 그만큼 위험한 때요, 고난의 시대입니다. Today, in the US and in Korea, we think we are safe in Christian life. But looking back the two thousand years of Christian history, there was no worse time than today. Last one century has more than 50% of the whole myrthers. It is the time of danger and that of persecution.
사도 바울은 예수님을 위해 고난 당하는 것을 기쁨으로 여겼습니다. "십자가 외에는 결코 자랑할 것이 없다"고 했습니다. Paul regarded the suffering for Jesus as his joy. He said, "The Cross is the only joy for me."
전설에 따르면, 베드로는 순교할 때, 거꾸로 십자가에 못박혔다고 했습니다. 예수님처럼 그렇게 죽을 수 없다는 것이었습니다. According to a legend, Peter was crucified upside down. He did not want to be crucified just like Jesus, the Savior.
우리가 예수님을 위한 고난을 당하는 마음에는, 예수님께서 당하신 고난이 바로 “나”를 위한 고난이었다는 깨달음입니다. 내가 질 고난을 당하셨고, 내가 죽을 것을 대신 죽으셨다는 깨달음입니다. As we get persecution for Jesus, we understand that the suffering Jesus had was just for us. Jesus had suffering that I deserved for us, and the death deserved for us.
주님께서 죽으셔서 우리가 살았습니다. As Jesus died, we lived.
그러나, 오늘 우리가 고난을 당한다고 해서, 그것이 ‘속죄’의 뜻을 품지는 못합니다. 즉, 예수님께서 우리를 위해 십자가를 지신 그런 뜻을 우리가 가질 수 없다는 말입니다. But our suffering does not contain the salvation. We are not saviors. The meaning of our suffering is certainly limited.
그럼에도 불구하고, 우리가 당하는 고난은 의미가 있습니다. 그 의미는 무엇입니까? Nevertheless, our suffering has meaning.
1. 세상을 이기는 것입니다. 우리는 고난을 피하지 않음으로써 세상을 이깁니다. We overcome the world with the suffering.
세상의 마귀는 우리에게 고난을 주면서, 그 고난을 피할 길을 제시합니다. 달콤한 유혹입니다. 예수님의 공생애 직전에 세 가지 시험했던 내용도 주님의 십자가를 피하라는 것이었습니다. 마귀의 인도를 따라 그 고난을 피한다면, 죄 짓는 길입니다. 파멸의 길입니다. Satan persecutes us; and he provides us an escaping path. It is a sweet temptation. As the three temptations given to Jesus before this three-year ministry, Satan seduces us not to get the suffering. If we follow Satan, we commit sins. It is a way of destruction.
이것 보십시오. 우리는 오히려 고난을 선택함으로써 마귀의 계획을 무너뜨립니다. Look. As we choose suffering, we nullify Satan's project.
2. 아울러, 우리는 고난을 당함으로써 우리 영혼이 정결하게 됩니다. 육체는 참 간사합니다. 편안할수록 나태해지고 죄를 짓게 됩니다. In addition, with suffering, our spirits may be purified. Flesh moves according to conditions. As we are convinient, we are nearer to the temptation to sins.
적당한 고난, 견딜만한 고통은 약입니다. 그런 어려움을 통해 하나님께 무릎으로 나아갈 수 있기 때문입니다. Suffering is medicine. Through the persecution, we do pray kneeled down and draw near to God.
고난은 참으로 유익합니다. 고난으로써 우리가 ‘멈추어야 하고’ ‘쉬어야 하며,’ 영혼을 위한 ‘기도를 드려야 하는’ 시간을 알 수 있습니다. Suffering is good. Suffering teaches us when and where to stop, when and where to take rest, when and where to pray for spirit.
3. 고난으로써 기쁨의 비밀을 이해할 수 있습니다. 천국을 더욱 더 사모하게 됩니다. 천국을 바라보는 삶을 살게 됩니다. 이 세상에 안주하면 영혼의 성장은 끝입니다. Suffering helps us to understand the secret of joy. It helps us look for the Kingdom of God. If we reside in the world, our souls will not grow.
그러나, 천국을 바라보는 한, 우리 영혼은 정결하게 성장할 것입니다. As we look for the Kingdom of God, however, our souls grow.
4. 고난을 통해 진정한 ‘도움’의 손길을 펼칠 수 있습니다. 우리 주님께서 ‘이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라’ 하셨습니다. 우리가 이웃을 참으로 사랑하기 위해서는 고난을 견디어야 합니다. 고난 없는 이웃사랑은 가치가 없습니다. 내가 수고하고, 희생하고, 고생하는 가운데 이웃을 배려하고 사랑하는 것입니다. Through the experience of suffering, we can help others. Jesus taught us "Love your neighbour as yourselves." To love others as ourselves, we need to suffer. Love without suffering is meaningless. AS we work, sacrifice, suffer, we think of others and love them.
"손 안 대고 코 푼다"는 속담이 있습니다. 고난 없이 남을 돌보고 사랑하려는 것은 이처럼 어리석은 시도입니다. 그렇게 할 수 없습니다. We cannot do anything without payment for it. To take care of others without suffering is not a wise attempt. It is not possible.
고난을 피하지 말아야 합니다. 고난을 정면으로 받아야 합니다. 그럴 때 우리는 기도할 수 있습니다. 기도할 수 있는 한, 세상의 어떤 고난도 우리를 넘어뜨릴 수는 없습니다. We need to meet suffering. In the very moment, we can pray. If we can pray, any worldly suffering cannot destroy us.
성경에 이상적으로 제시된 인물들을 돌아봅시다. 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱, 요셉, 모세, 여호수아, 사무엘, 다윗, 엘리야, 다니엘, 바울, 베드로, 요한... 이들은 고난을 피하지 않았습니다. 우리가 성경에서 이들을 만나 영혼에 큰 양식을 얻는 것은, 저들의 믿음을 본받을 때입니다. 저들의 믿음과 용기를 우리가 배워야 합니다. Think of the ideal figures in the Bible. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Daniel, Paul, Peter, and John... They did not escape from persecution. As we meet them in our reading the Bible, we learn their courage and faith.
저들은 고난을 통해서 오히려 하나님의 섭리를 배웠습니다. Through suffering, they learned God's planning.
어떤 사람이 아들을 잃었습니다. 병으로 오래 앓던 아들이었습니다. 아들을 잃은 슬픔에 젖어있던 그는 문득 하나님의 음성을 들었습니다. “수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자야, 내게로 오라. 내가 너를 쉬게 하리라!” A man lost his young son. The son suffered from disease for a long time. Having been in suffering from the lose, he heard the voice from God: "You man of heavy burden, come to me. I will give you a rest."
아들을 데려가심으로써 비로소 그를 ‘쉬게 하신 것’이었습니다. By taking the son away from him, God gave him a rest.
남편을 잃은 여인이 있었습니다. 비슷한 시기에 동생도 잃었습니다. 눈치를 보며 위로하는 사람들에게 이렇게 말했습니다: “내 사랑하는 사람들을 데려가심으로써 하나님께서는 내게 시련을 주셨습니다. 그런데, 하나님께서는 이 일로 나에게 선물을 주셨습니다. 그것은 ‘자유’입니다. 나는 비로소 자유를 느낍니다. 하나님께 감사와 찬양을 돌려드립니다.” A woman lost her husband. About the same time, she also lost his brother. She said to her friends: "God gave me suffering by taking my lovely ones from me. But God also gave me a gift: the freedom. I now feel I am free. I thank God for this."
사업에 망한 어떤 사람의 고백입니다. “나는 사업에 망함으로써 비로소 잠을 잘 수 있게 되었습니다. 아무거나 맛있게 먹게 되었습니다. 아내와 함께 손잡고 골목을 걷는 기쁨을 회복하게 되었습니다. 아이들과 함께 자장면을 먹으러 나갈 시간을 얻게 되었습니다. 나는 하나님께 감사 드립니다.” A man of bankrupcy confessed: "With the loss of my business, I now can sleep deeply. I can enjoy eating food. I could enjoy walking the streets with my wife. I could have time for eating at a restaurant with my children. I thank God for all of these."
하나님께서 판단하십니다. 그래서 우리에게 ‘고난’을 주신 것입니다. 이것은 하나님께로부터 온 것입니다. God judges, and he gives us suffering. This comes from God.
욥은 말했습니다. “기쁨을 주신 하나님께서 고난도 주시지 않겠느냐?” “주신 자도 하나님이시오, 취하신 자도 하나님이시다! 하나님은 영원토록 찬양을 받으실 분이시다!!” Job said, "As God gave me joy, he also can give me suffering." "God gave and he takes. Only God be glorified forever!"
오늘 우리에게 고난이 있습니까? 먼저 판단하십시오. 이것이 “나의 죄/실수 때문에 온 것인가?” “예수 그리스도를 위한 고난인가?” 만약 전자라면, 무릎 꿇고 회개하여 예수 그리스도의 보혈로 그 죄를 씻음 받아야 합니다. 다시는 똑같은 고난의 함정에 빠지지 않도록 조심하면서 살아가야 합니다. Are you in trouble? Judge first if it comes from your sin or from Jesus.
그러나, 만약 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 고난 받는 중이라면 “기뻐하고 즐거워해야” 합니다. 우리를 위해 예비하신 상이 크기 때문입니다. If it were the former, you need to pray, repenting your sins. If it be the latter, suffering in Jesus' name, you have reasons to enjoy the misfortune. Because the reward in heaven is great.
주님은 우리를 사용하시는 분이십니다. 우리가 하나님의 일에 사용되고 있는 증거는 “고난”입니다. 아무런 고난이 없다면 돌아보아야 합니다. 우리는 ‘버림받은 자들’ 아닌가? The Lord uses us for his mission. The evidence that we are using by God is "suffering." No suffering? Then you need to think all over again. Are you not ignored ones by God?
이런 의미에서, 의를 위하여, 주님의 이름을 위하여 고난당하는 것은, 주님의 일군들의 특권입니다. The suffering for Jesus is our previlege as we be the servants of God.
버림받은 사람은 아무런 고난도 받을 이유가 없습니다. 그런데 날마다 “불평”입니다. 참 이상하지요. Those who are forgotten do not have any reason for suffering. But they complain daily. It is not understandable.
그러나, 주님께 쓰임 받는 사람은 불평하지 않습니다. 오히려 고난 중에도 “찬송”합니다. 감사합니다. But the people of God do not complain but give thanks to God even in time of trouble.
태산을 넘어 험곡에 가도 빛 가운데로 걸어가면, 주께서 항상 지키시기로 약속한 말씀 변치않네! Even in the vally of death, we do follow the light of God. The promise that he would keep us from dangers is not changable.
이런 기쁨의 찬송이 여러분의 삶을 주장할 수 있기를 고난 당하셔서 구원을 이루신 우리 구주 예수님의 이름으로 축원합니다. 아멘. This is a joyful hymn we sing daily. I bless you all in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior.

은혜의 주님. 감사드립니다. 고난 중에도 노래를 주시고, 슬픔 중에도 참된 위로를 주신 은혜를 감사합니다. 날마다 주님 바라보면서 승리의 행진을 계속하게 하옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘. O God of Grace, we thank you. You have given us songs in the time of suffering, true comfort in the time of tears. Let us march the victorious path looking for your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Loving Father God, we thank you this morning. You have waited for us, as we had depated from your house and wandered in the world. Help us get victory through your love. O God, we want to do all the missions to deliver the Gospel to the world. Give us the strength to do that. 의를 위하여 핍박을 받은 자는 복이 있나니
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness
고난은 두 가지가 있습니다. 첫째로, 자기가 잘못해서 받는 것입니다. 성경은 이런 고난은 피하라고 가르칩니다. 피하는 방법은 실수나 잘못을 범하지 않도록 기도하며 노력하는 것입니다. 죄를 지어 고난 중에 있을 때는 회개하여 주님의 구원하심을 받아야 합니다. 이런 고난은 아무런 유익이 없습니다. There are two kinds of suffering. The first is that coming from one's own sin. The Bible teaches us to escape this kind of suffering. The way not to be involved in such suffering is to pray and do our best accordingly. In time of suffering from sin, we must repent and get salvation of the Lord. This kind of suffering does not have any goodness.
둘째로, 예수 그리스도를 위해 받는 고난이 있습니다. 이런 것을 ‘그리스도를 위한 핍박’이라고도 하겠습니다. 성경은 이런 고난을 ‘즐겨 받으라’ 권면합니다. 이 고난은 유익합니다. 영혼을 강건케 합니다. 평안의 깊은 의미를 알게 합니다. The second is suffering for Jesus Christ. This is persecution for Christ. The Bible recommands us to get suffering with joy. This suffering gives us goodness. It strengthens our spirit. It teaches the deep dimension of peace.
주님께서는 핍박을 받고 내세에 영생을 얻는 길에 대해 말씀하셨습니다. "No Cross, no Crown." 십자가 없이는 영광도 없다는 속담입니다. "나를 따르려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라." 어째서 사랑하는 자녀들에게 어째서 십자가 같은 고난을 피하지 말라고 권면하셨을까요? 아니, 오히려 십자가를 지는 것이 주님을 따르는 유일한 길임을 지적하셨을까요? 십자가의 길은 유익한 고난이기 때문입니다. Jesus taught us the way of suffering and getting eternal life. "No Cross, no Crown." This means without the Cross, there is no glory. Jesus said, "If you want to follow me, deny yourselves and carry your own crosses, and follow me." Why Jesus asked his loving children not to escape from the suffering like the cross? Why Jesus indicated the cross be the only way to follow him? Because the cross is the only goodness.
사도 바울이 디모데에게 권한 말씀 가운데, “고난을 받으라!”는 적극적인 가르침이 있습니다. Paul wrote Timothy, "Take suffering positively."
영적인 강건함을 위해서는 ‘핍박’이 필요합니다. 그리스도인은 핍박을 통해서 영이 성장합니다. For the growth in spirit, we need persecution. The spirit of a Christians grows with suffering.
일부러 핍박을 자초할 필요는 없을지 모릅니다. 그러나, 어떤 때는 정말 핍박을 사모하기도 합니다. 핍박이 있는 자리를 일부러 찾아가기도 합니다. 거기서 영적 평안을 얻기 때문입니다. We might not need to call for suffering. But, sometimes, we really need persecution. We choose the path of suffering. Because we get spiritual peace right there.
나는 콜롬비아를 갈 때마다 영적인 도전을 받습니다. 그리고 영이 맑아지는 것을 경험합니다. 나 뿐 아니라 그 나라를 방문하여 선교하는 모든 선교사들의 공통된 의견입니다. 콜롬비아는 진실한 그리스도인을 핍박하는 나라입니다. 이런 부류에 드는 나라는 세계 곳곳에 참 많습니다. 불행하게도 북한은 가장 심각하게 핍박하는 두 세 나라에 듭니다. Whenever I fly to Colombia, I got spiritual challenge. And I experienced spiritual purity there. It is not my own exclusive opinion; all the missionaries to Colombia agree to the fact. Colombia persecutes true Christians. There are many countries that can be categorized with Colombia. Unfortunately, North Korea is one of some worst condition.
어째서 예수님을 위한 고난이 그렇게 영적으로 유익할까요? How the suffering for Jesus so good to us?
고난을 통해서 우리는 예수님께서 받으신 모욕, 육체적 고난, 영적 번뇌 등을 경험하기 때문입니다. 그런 경험과 함께, 비로소 주님의 마음을 이해할 수 있게 되는 것입니다. Because through suffering we experience insulting, physical harship, spiritual trial that Jesus had before. With such experiences, we understand the mind of Jesus.
우리가 주님을 사랑하는 한, 우리가 주님의 은혜를 따라 믿음을 지켜 살아가는 한, 우리의 인생에 다가오는 모든 고난은 십자가의 길입니다. 그 모든 고난은 유익합니다. 우리가 주님께 헌신하고 "주님의 자녀"로 살아가는 한, 우리에게 닥친 모든 고난은 다 "의미"가 있습니다. 우리 영혼에 유익합니다. 따라서 버릴 것이 없습니다. As we love Jesus, as we follow the grace of the Lord within the faith, all the sufferings in our lives are on the path of the cross. All the sufferings are good. As long as we devote our lives and live the lives as "the children of the Lord," all the sufferings are meaningful. They are good for our souls. There is, therefore, nothing to discard.
이 책은 폴 브랜드와 필립 얀시가 합력해서 썼습니다. <고통이라는 선물>입니다. 여기서 우리는 "고통"을 주신 하나님께 참 감사해야 할 조건이 많다는 사실을 배웁니다. 고통은 우리 건강을 지키는 파수꾼입니다. 고통은 "자기보호 장치"입니다. 고통이 제거된 사람은 빠른 속도로 자기를 망가뜨립니다. 문둥병이나 몇 가지 병은 이런 무고통이라는 'side effect'를 줍니다. 병 자체보다는 무고통 때문에 사람들은 자기방어를 하지 않습니다. 그래서 스스로 '절제'하지 못합니다. Let me show you a book, written by Paul Brand and Philip Yancy: <The Gift of Pain>. Here, we learn the fact that there are a number of conditions to give thanks to God who gave us sufferings. Suffering, or pain, is the watchman for our health. Suffering is a self-protecting device. Without pain, a man does not protect himself. And he fails in self-control.
영혼의 강건함은 때로 영혼의 갈급함이라는 자기보호기제를 필요로 합니다. 육신의 건강이 스스로 현 상태에 만족하지 못하는 근질근질함에 근거하는 것과 마찬가지입니다. Spiritual health needs spiritual hunger, which is self-protecting device. It is the same rule that physical health depends on physical hunger for sports and physical trainings.
바로 이런 점에서, 예수님의 8복은 "갈급한 심령"을 전제합니다. 천국에 들어가는 가장 근본적인 조건입니다. 어린아이와 같이 신령한 젖을 사모하는 마음입니다. In this sense, the eight beatitudes presume the hungry spirit. It is the very essential condition to get into the Kingdom of God. It is the heart, like a child, asking for the spiritual milk.
오늘 본문은 산상수훈의 여덟 가지 복 가운데 마지막 복입니다. 지난 두 주일 동안 우리는 산상수훈의 몇 가지 복을 순서를 따라 강해했습니다. 심령이 가난한 자 그리고 화평케 하는 자. Today's scripture is the last beatitude in Matthew 5. Last two Sundays, I preached about the two previous beatitudes: the blessings for those who are poor in spirit and the peacemakers.
그런데, “의를 위하여 핍박을 받은 자의 복”은 가만 보면 그 다음에 “나를 인하여 너희를 욕하고 핍박하고 거짓으로 너희를 거스려 모든 악한 말을 할 때”라는 것과 혼동이 됩니다. According to today's scripture, the blessing seems to be a double one: persecution because of righteousness and that because of me, of course, Jesus himself.
어떤 사람들은 “의를 위하여”와 “나를 인하여”를 각각 다른 복으로 여깁니다. 그렇게 되면 8복이 아니라 9복이 되고 맙니다. Some interpret "for righteousness" is different from "for me." If so, what we have is nine beatitudes, not eight.
그러나, 전통을 따라서 우리가 8복이라고 생각한다면, “의를 위하여”와 “나를 인하여”는 같은 내용의 반복인 셈입니다. 나는 대부분의 학자들과 목회자들을 따라 '8복'이라는 입장을 따릅니다. If we follow, however, the long tradition, "for righteousness" and "for me" are the same, a repetition. Following tradition and most of scholars, I take the two are the same.
“의를 위하여”와 “나를 인하여”가 같은 내용의 반복이라면, “의”란 곧 “예수 그리스도”를 의미하는 것임을 알겠습니다. 진리, 길, 생명 등과 마찬가지로 “의”도 예수 그리스도로 ‘의인화’되는 것입니다. If "for righteousness" and "for me" are the same, it logically implies that righteousenss is about Jesus Christ. Like the truth, the way, and the life, the righteousenss is also personified here.
참고로, 성경에 ‘의인’이라고 한 것은, 주님께서 의롭다고 인정하신 사람들을 말합니다. 그들 자체로 ‘선한 사람들’이라는 뜻은 아닙니다. 주님께서 의롭다 하심은 한자어로 ‘칭의’라고 합니다. For reference, in the Bible when there is mention like "a man of righteousness," he is the man whom God recognized like that. It does not necessarily mean that they are righteous by nature. What Jesus recognized to be rightousness is 'justification.'
“의를 위하여 핍박을 받은 자” 라는 말씀과 “예수님 때문에 핍박을 받은 자”를 하나로 묶어서 “예수님을 위해 핍박을 받은 자”라고 통일시키겠습니다. Today's scripture, therefore, is talking about those who are persecuted because of Jesus Christ.
우리가 주님을 위해 핍박을 받는 것은 복입니다. 우리가 무엇인데 정말 예수님을 위하여 핍박을 받을 수 있다는 말입니까? It is our blessing that we are persecuated for Jesus. We are but sinners. And how can we be persecuted for Jesus?
예수님 때문에 핍박을 받는다는 것은, 사람들이 예수님을 싫어해서, 예수님을 핍박하려던 것을 예수님을 사랑하는 우리들을 ‘대신’ 핍박한다는 뜻입니다. 그러니까, 주님께서 받으실 몫을 우리가 받게 된 것입니다. “우리가 예수님 대신 핍박 받을 수 있다니!” 이 얼마나 놀라운 축복입니까? They persecute us for Jesus' name. This means they intended to persecute Jesus, but they do to us in his name. What we have now is what was intended to be portion of Jesus. What a wonderful blessing it is!!
실제는 우리 대신 예수님께서 십자가를 지셨습니다. 그러니까, 우리 이름으로 우리 주님께서 핍박을 당하신 것입니다. 그런데, 이제는 우리 차례입니다. 우리가 예수님의 이름으로 핍박을 받는 것입니다. 이것은 정말 즐거운 일입니다. In fact, Jesus was crucified for us. That means, Jesus was persecuted for us. And it is our turn. We are persecuted in Jesus' name. This is really wonderful thing.
예수님을 너무 너무 사랑하다 보니, 예수님의 이름으로 받는 고난이 오히려 '영광'입니다. 삶의 진정한 목적이 되어 버렸습니다. As we love Jesus that much, the suffering because of him is glory for us. It has become true life goal for us.
구체적으로, 예수님 때문에 받는 고난은 "전도"의 과정에서 나타납니다. 그리스도인이라고 해도 전도 하지 않을 경우 고난은 없습니다. 한 달란트 받았던 사람처럼 스스로를 꽁꽁 싸매서 땅에 묻어 버리면 아무도 위협하지 않습니다. 그런데 전도 없는 신앙은 죽은 것입니다. 고난을 피하는 생명은 이미 죽었습니다. 무릇 살아있는 생명체는 고난을 피할 수 없습니다. 아이들도 아프면서 큰다고 하지 않습니까? As a matter of fact, the suffering for Jesus is perceived in the process of evangelization. A Christian without evangelization will not be involved in persecution. Like the person who got one talent, he could hide his talent under the ground; no one would threathen him. But the faith without evangelization is but a dead one. A living being cannot escape from suffering. A child grows with pain.
월남전 영화 한 토막입니다. 분대원이 작전을 나갔습니다. 김 일병은 물을 마구 마셨습니다. 동료들이 “물을 아껴라!”고 충고했습니다. 그러나 김 일병은 웃어 넘겼습니다. A scene of a film of the Viet Nam War. A team went for a battle. A soldier Kim did not control drinking water. Fellow soldiers advised him save the water, but he did not listen to them.
정작 사막지대에 이르렀을 때 김 일병은 목이 탔습니다. 그러나 아무도 그에게 물을 나눠 주지 않았습니다. 그는 쓰러질 지경에 이르렀습니다. In the center of a desert, Kim was out of water. He needed water but no one shared water with him. He was about to die.
그럴 때, 최 상병이 물통을 주었습니다. 김 일병은 그 물을 남기지 않고 다 마셔 버렸습니다. 다른 동료들이 최 상병을 비난했습니다. 줄 필요가 없는 사람에게 피 같은 물을 주고 말았다고! 그리고 김 일병을 꾸짖었습니다. 그걸 어떻게 다 마셔버리느냐고? And a soldier named Choi gave Kim a water bottle. Kim drank all of it. Fellow soldiers rebuked Choi that he gave the precious water to the ugly guy. And they criticized Kim for drinking the blood-like water to the end.
갑자기 적과 교전이 벌어졌습니다. 갑자기 일어난 사건이었습니다. 여기서 최 상병이 다쳤습니다. 앞서 나가다가 총을 맞은 것입니다. 아무도 최 상병을 끌어다가 참호 쪽으로 데려올 생각을 하지 않았습니다. 이 때 김 일병이 나섰습니다. 총알이 빗발치는 언덕을 향해 돌진했습니다. 그리고 죽어가는 최 상병을 잡아끌고 참호로 돌아왔습니다. 김 일병도 다리에 총을 맞았습니다. 그러나, 그는 오히려 두려워하지 않았습니다. 카메라는 김 일병의 얼굴을 클로즈업 해서 한동안 화면에 가득 채웠습니다. 그는 최 상병을 죽음으로 몰아넣은 적군에게 분노하고 있었습니다. All of a sudden, there happened a battle. Choi, while he was leading the team, was wounded. No one thought of pulling Choi to the bunker. In the moment, Kim came out. He rushed to the hill with a shower of bulletins. He brought the dying Choi back to the bunker. Kim was also wounded, but he did not fear the enemies. The camera closeed up the face of Kim, full of anger against the enemies.
김 일병이 최 상병을 위해 무슨 일을 할 수 있었다는 것은 참 자랑스러운 일입니다. It was a great joy (with righteous anger) for Kim to do somethig for Choi.
오늘 우리가 우리를 살려주신 예수 그리스도를 위해 무슨 일인가 할 수 있다는 것은 참 기쁜 일입니다. 우리를 살려주신 구세주 아니십니까? It is a great joy for us to do someting for Jesus who saved us from death. He is the Savior, isn't he?
예수님을 위해 할 수 있는 일이라면 무슨 일이라도 할 수 있습니다. 내 생명을 드려도 아깝지 않습니다. If it is for Jesus, we can do all things. We can devote our lives for him.
갈라디아 2:20입니다. “내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니, 그런즉 이제 내가 산 것 아니요, 오직 내 안에 예수님께서 사신 것이라. 이제 내가 육체 가운데 사는 것은, 나를 사랑하사 자기 몸 버리신 예수 안에 사는 것이라.” Do you read Galathians 2:20?: I have been crudified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
성도가 예수님의 이름으로 핍박 받는 것은 오히려 기쁜 일입니다. 몸은 고달프고 괴로우나, 심령은 날마다 새롭습니다. 감사와 기쁨이 넘칩니다. “영광”입니다. 우리가 예수님의 고난을 대신 받을 수 있다니! It is a great joy for a Christian to get persecution for Jesus. The body is in trouble, but the spirit is in joy. We are full of thanks and joy. It is the glory for us. What a wonderful thing we do for Jesus!
이 세상의 마귀 권세는 큽니다. 저들은 저들의 때가 얼마 남지 않은 것을 압니다. 그래서 성도들을 하나라도 더 넘어뜨리기 위해 온갖 노력을 다 기울입니다. The worldly Satan has power. They understand their time is short. And they do their best to destroy Christians.
2천 년 전에 예수님을 십자가에 못 박았던 그 세력은, 오늘날까지 성도들을 핍박하고 죽이기도 합니다. The demonic power crucified Jesus two thousand years ago persecutes Christians even today.
오늘 우리는 한국과 미국에서 신앙생활 하면서, 참 안전하다고 생각합니다. 그러나, 세상은 지난 2천 년 역사를 돌아볼 때, 지금처럼 위험한 때가 없었습니다. 수없이 많은 순교자가 생겨나고 있습니다. 지난 1세기 동안 순교한 성도의 수는 그리스도교 2천년 역사 가운데 생겨난 순교자들의 수의 절반을 넘습니다. 지금은 그만큼 위험한 때요, 고난의 시대입니다. Today, in the US and in Korea, we think we are safe in Christian life. But looking back the two thousand years of Christian history, there was no worse time than today. Last one century has more than 50% of the whole myrthers. It is the time of danger and that of persecution.
사도 바울은 예수님을 위해 고난 당하는 것을 기쁨으로 여겼습니다. "십자가 외에는 결코 자랑할 것이 없다"고 했습니다. Paul regarded the suffering for Jesus as his joy. He said, "The Cross is the only joy for me."
전설에 따르면, 베드로는 순교할 때, 거꾸로 십자가에 못박혔다고 했습니다. 예수님처럼 그렇게 죽을 수 없다는 것이었습니다. According to a legend, Peter was crucified upside down. He did not want to be crucified just like Jesus, the Savior.
우리가 예수님을 위한 고난을 당하는 마음에는, 예수님께서 당하신 고난이 바로 “나”를 위한 고난이었다는 깨달음입니다. 내가 질 고난을 당하셨고, 내가 죽을 것을 대신 죽으셨다는 깨달음입니다. As we get persecution for Jesus, we understand that the suffering Jesus had was just for us. Jesus had suffering that I deserved for us, and the death deserved for us.
주님께서 죽으셔서 우리가 살았습니다. As Jesus died, we lived.
그러나, 오늘 우리가 고난을 당한다고 해서, 그것이 ‘속죄’의 뜻을 품지는 못합니다. 즉, 예수님께서 우리를 위해 십자가를 지신 그런 뜻을 우리가 가질 수 없다는 말입니다. But our suffering does not contain the salvation. We are not saviors. The meaning of our suffering is certainly limited.
그럼에도 불구하고, 우리가 당하는 고난은 의미가 있습니다. 그 의미는 무엇입니까? Nevertheless, our suffering has meaning.
1. 세상을 이기는 것입니다. 우리는 고난을 피하지 않음으로써 세상을 이깁니다. We overcome the world with the suffering.
세상의 마귀는 우리에게 고난을 주면서, 그 고난을 피할 길을 제시합니다. 달콤한 유혹입니다. 예수님의 공생애 직전에 세 가지 시험했던 내용도 주님의 십자가를 피하라는 것이었습니다. 마귀의 인도를 따라 그 고난을 피한다면, 죄 짓는 길입니다. 파멸의 길입니다. Satan persecutes us; and he provides us an escaping path. It is a sweet temptation. As the three temptations given to Jesus before this three-year ministry, Satan seduces us not to get the suffering. If we follow Satan, we commit sins. It is a way of destruction.
이것 보십시오. 우리는 오히려 고난을 선택함으로써 마귀의 계획을 무너뜨립니다. Look. As we choose suffering, we nullify Satan's project.
2. 아울러, 우리는 고난을 당함으로써 우리 영혼이 정결하게 됩니다. 육체는 참 간사합니다. 편안할수록 나태해지고 죄를 짓게 됩니다. In addition, with suffering, our spirits may be purified. Flesh moves according to conditions. As we are convinient, we are nearer to the temptation to sins.
적당한 고난, 견딜만한 고통은 약입니다. 그런 어려움을 통해 하나님께 무릎으로 나아갈 수 있기 때문입니다. Suffering is medicine. Through the persecution, we do pray kneeled down and draw near to God.
고난은 참으로 유익합니다. 고난으로써 우리가 ‘멈추어야 하고’ ‘쉬어야 하며,’ 영혼을 위한 ‘기도를 드려야 하는’ 시간을 알 수 있습니다. Suffering is good. Suffering teaches us when and where to stop, when and where to take rest, when and where to pray for spirit.
3. 고난으로써 기쁨의 비밀을 이해할 수 있습니다. 천국을 더욱 더 사모하게 됩니다. 천국을 바라보는 삶을 살게 됩니다. 이 세상에 안주하면 영혼의 성장은 끝입니다. Suffering helps us to understand the secret of joy. It helps us look for the Kingdom of God. If we reside in the world, our souls will not grow.
그러나, 천국을 바라보는 한, 우리 영혼은 정결하게 성장할 것입니다. As we look for the Kingdom of God, however, our souls grow.
4. 고난을 통해 진정한 ‘도움’의 손길을 펼칠 수 있습니다. 우리 주님께서 ‘이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라’ 하셨습니다. 우리가 이웃을 참으로 사랑하기 위해서는 고난을 견디어야 합니다. 고난 없는 이웃사랑은 가치가 없습니다. 내가 수고하고, 희생하고, 고생하는 가운데 이웃을 배려하고 사랑하는 것입니다. Through the experience of suffering, we can help others. Jesus taught us "Love your neighbour as yourselves." To love others as ourselves, we need to suffer. Love without suffering is meaningless. AS we work, sacrifice, suffer, we think of others and love them.
"손 안 대고 코 푼다"는 속담이 있습니다. 고난 없이 남을 돌보고 사랑하려는 것은 이처럼 어리석은 시도입니다. 그렇게 할 수 없습니다. We cannot do anything without payment for it. To take care of others without suffering is not a wise attempt. It is not possible.
고난을 피하지 말아야 합니다. 고난을 정면으로 받아야 합니다. 그럴 때 우리는 기도할 수 있습니다. 기도할 수 있는 한, 세상의 어떤 고난도 우리를 넘어뜨릴 수는 없습니다. We need to meet suffering. In the very moment, we can pray. If we can pray, any worldly suffering cannot destroy us.
성경에 이상적으로 제시된 인물들을 돌아봅시다. 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱, 요셉, 모세, 여호수아, 사무엘, 다윗, 엘리야, 다니엘, 바울, 베드로, 요한... 이들은 고난을 피하지 않았습니다. 우리가 성경에서 이들을 만나 영혼에 큰 양식을 얻는 것은, 저들의 믿음을 본받을 때입니다. 저들의 믿음과 용기를 우리가 배워야 합니다. Think of the ideal figures in the Bible. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Daniel, Paul, Peter, and John... They did not escape from persecution. As we meet them in our reading the Bible, we learn their courage and faith.
저들은 고난을 통해서 오히려 하나님의 섭리를 배웠습니다. Through suffering, they learned God's planning.
어떤 사람이 아들을 잃었습니다. 병으로 오래 앓던 아들이었습니다. 아들을 잃은 슬픔에 젖어있던 그는 문득 하나님의 음성을 들었습니다. “수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자야, 내게로 오라. 내가 너를 쉬게 하리라!” A man lost his young son. The son suffered from disease for a long time. Having been in suffering from the lose, he heard the voice from God: "You man of heavy burden, come to me. I will give you a rest."
아들을 데려가심으로써 비로소 그를 ‘쉬게 하신 것’이었습니다. By taking the son away from him, God gave him a rest.
남편을 잃은 여인이 있었습니다. 비슷한 시기에 동생도 잃었습니다. 눈치를 보며 위로하는 사람들에게 이렇게 말했습니다: “내 사랑하는 사람들을 데려가심으로써 하나님께서는 내게 시련을 주셨습니다. 그런데, 하나님께서는 이 일로 나에게 선물을 주셨습니다. 그것은 ‘자유’입니다. 나는 비로소 자유를 느낍니다. 하나님께 감사와 찬양을 돌려드립니다.” A woman lost her husband. About the same time, she also lost his brother. She said to her friends: "God gave me suffering by taking my lovely ones from me. But God also gave me a gift: the freedom. I now feel I am free. I thank God for this."
사업에 망한 어떤 사람의 고백입니다. “나는 사업에 망함으로써 비로소 잠을 잘 수 있게 되었습니다. 아무거나 맛있게 먹게 되었습니다. 아내와 함께 손잡고 골목을 걷는 기쁨을 회복하게 되었습니다. 아이들과 함께 자장면을 먹으러 나갈 시간을 얻게 되었습니다. 나는 하나님께 감사 드립니다.” A man of bankrupcy confessed: "With the loss of my business, I now can sleep deeply. I can enjoy eating food. I could enjoy walking the streets with my wife. I could have time for eating at a restaurant with my children. I thank God for all of these."
하나님께서 판단하십니다. 그래서 우리에게 ‘고난’을 주신 것입니다. 이것은 하나님께로부터 온 것입니다. God judges, and he gives us suffering. This comes from God.
욥은 말했습니다. “기쁨을 주신 하나님께서 고난도 주시지 않겠느냐?” “주신 자도 하나님이시오, 취하신 자도 하나님이시다! 하나님은 영원토록 찬양을 받으실 분이시다!!” Job said, "As God gave me joy, he also can give me suffering." "God gave and he takes. Only God be glorified forever!"
오늘 우리에게 고난이 있습니까? 먼저 판단하십시오. 이것이 “나의 죄/실수 때문에 온 것인가?” “예수 그리스도를 위한 고난인가?” 만약 전자라면, 무릎 꿇고 회개하여 예수 그리스도의 보혈로 그 죄를 씻음 받아야 합니다. 다시는 똑같은 고난의 함정에 빠지지 않도록 조심하면서 살아가야 합니다. Are you in trouble? Judge first if it comes from your sin or from Jesus.
그러나, 만약 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 고난 받는 중이라면 “기뻐하고 즐거워해야” 합니다. 우리를 위해 예비하신 상이 크기 때문입니다. If it were the former, you need to pray, repenting your sins. If it be the latter, suffering in Jesus' name, you have reasons to enjoy the misfortune. Because the reward in heaven is great.
주님은 우리를 사용하시는 분이십니다. 우리가 하나님의 일에 사용되고 있는 증거는 “고난”입니다. 아무런 고난이 없다면 돌아보아야 합니다. 우리는 ‘버림받은 자들’ 아닌가? The Lord uses us for his mission. The evidence that we are using by God is "suffering." No suffering? Then you need to think all over again. Are you not ignored ones by God?
이런 의미에서, 의를 위하여, 주님의 이름을 위하여 고난당하는 것은, 주님의 일군들의 특권입니다. The suffering for Jesus is our previlege as we be the servants of God.
버림받은 사람은 아무런 고난도 받을 이유가 없습니다. 그런데 날마다 “불평”입니다. 참 이상하지요. Those who are forgotten do not have any reason for suffering. But they complain daily. It is not understandable.
그러나, 주님께 쓰임 받는 사람은 불평하지 않습니다. 오히려 고난 중에도 “찬송”합니다. 감사합니다. But the people of God do not complain but give thanks to God even in time of trouble.
태산을 넘어 험곡에 가도 빛 가운데로 걸어가면, 주께서 항상 지키시기로 약속한 말씀 변치않네! Even in the vally of death, we do follow the light of God. The promise that he would keep us from dangers is not changable.
이런 기쁨의 찬송이 여러분의 삶을 주장할 수 있기를 고난 당하셔서 구원을 이루신 우리 구주 예수님의 이름으로 축원합니다. 아멘. This is a joyful hymn we sing daily. I bless you all in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior.
기도 Prayer
은혜의 주님. 감사드립니다. 고난 중에도 노래를 주시고, 슬픔 중에도 참된 위로를 주신 은혜를 감사합니다. 날마다 주님 바라보면서 승리의 행진을 계속하게 하옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘. O God of Grace, we thank you. You have given us songs in the time of suffering, true comfort in the time of tears. Let us march the victorious path looking for your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
봉헌기도 Offering Prayer
은혜의 주님. 주님께서 모든 것을 주셨습니다. 이제 주님께 바치오니, 저희들의 삶에 기쁨 가득 채워 주시옵소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘. Gracious Lord. You have given all we have. Now we are returning something sanctified, O Lord, fill us up with joy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
